Quite possibly the worst value for money signing in the history of our club, and this is a from a club that paid £35m for Andy Carroll and £20m for Stewart Downing.

Horrendous defender in all aspects of his game, I hope I never have to witness the catastrophe of Lovren ever again. I'd rather play with 10 men than Lovren, less chance of a total **** up that way.

And I thought signing Konchesky was bad but that was "only" for £3.5m.

I reference to Johnny Evans was obviously tongue and cheek but they both share similar qualities ... both "good" defenders ... both have at least 1 big mistake in them per game ......eehh they both play football ok bye

Could Lovren's poor play be a symptom of our **** defensive tactics? Perhaps he feels he needs to make up for the deficiencies but instead get's exposed time and again.

Deep down I think he's just ****ing **** and we should cancel his contract and let him go. Complete waste of money. To think we could have used that money to buy a player like Depay.

I think someone pointed out before in a 4231 system he plays immeasurably better , but he needs someone solid in front of him, then you see the best of him. But I have to say I am normally all for giving players plenty of time but I would not shed a tear if he was carted off in the summer. Very disappointing from day one, he had about 2 decent games all season and both of them he still made serious errors, his positional sense is totally all over the shop and for a player who had Alonsoesque passing the season before I lost count of the number of times he booted the ball to nobody or the the upper stands

He totally looks lost and has no idea how to play as part of a back three.

If he cost 20 million then surely we can get 100 for Sterling :-)

                  He's no Mascherano though.

He's been poor, but it won't be a case of swapping different players in to make dramatic improvements unless those players are tremendous in aerial battles. On the floor the defence gets pulled all over the shop because the midfield is gash, and the fullbacks are generally poor in one-on-one situations, while opponents all too often can attack the middle of the defence unopposed.

If we had a Hyppia type aerial powerhouse it would make a big difference, but in terms of overall defensive vulnerability we need a structural re-think. I'm not advocating a return to Rafa's ultra-defensive, everyone behind the ball regimental hoof-it tedium though.

We looked much better with Sakho back in there

When this thread is bolded, it gives the slightest hope that when I click in... that maybe another club have put a bid in for Lovren or maybe the club want rid.

Sakho is the superior player, but we're still vulnerable re: the points I made before; it's too easy for opponents to put pressure on the defence, even when we dominate possession against teams that 'park the bus'. The opposition don't have to fight tooth and nail to get at us, so we're bound to give up our share of goals over the season.
