The thing is I can't tell whether it's just his positional play that's the problem or failure to do the fundamentals or both

      It's probably both
and Skrtel spends too much time covering him - which makes Skrtel look ****.

The Lovren experiment is likely to be the undoing of Rogers... if he persists with him it will cost him his job ultimately.

Brendan needs to admit he was wrong and get Sakho into the side.

He does need to admit it but I'd be amazed if he did, especially after going to print with praise for him just this week.

But that for me is the biggest problem with Rodgers - his persistent belief that he will be proven right in the end. Though strangely, that is often a strength of a great manager... though usually it's coupled with the ability not to sign a bomb scare on the scale of Lovren.

Agree all the greats have to have that conviction that their way is the best way. But for the greats their way usually was the best way. Not in this case.

many other managers also thought they were doing the right thing and were well on the way along their path to greatness and success but then failed.

some managers are 'successful' at a lower level without ever being winners, but they are more pragmatic in their approach as they better understand the level they can compete at and can set up the team to be tight and functional, yet they still manage to take points off the top teams.

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

If we had the director of football in place, then Brendan would have to justify lovrens inclusion (and Sakhos exclusion)......

If dejan starts at old Trafford in 2 weeks, then the pressure will be unreal. He is a **** up away from the point of no return

Frankly, a manager having to explain his game-by-game team selections to a director of football would be nothing short of disastrous.
Of course, long-term strategy, playing style, transfer targets etc is an area for consultation between two heads, but it's got to be the manager making the calls.

Agreed, he has to be able to choose his team, playing style and tactics and either through these he succeeds or fails. Having to get "sign off" on the team would leave the role of manager as pretty much redundant.

Dejan Lovren v Chris Smalling Can't wait for the Carragher/Neville analysis on these two.
