I thought, mistake for their goal aside, he was a pretty strong performer today. He puts in a really good shift and his pace is a weapon down that side. Certainly he can get better, especially in defensive concentration and also his delivery, but he has time and his enthusiasm for the game is pretty infectious. I like him.

This is it mate, time is on his side. He has the attitude, he's got the desire and he's fairly good going forward. I'm backing him but he has to improve to be here long term but his personality is infectious so that might buy him extra time.Originally posted by danperkins View Post
if he could just improve his defensive game, he could be great for us.Vive la France

there was a little passage of play where the ball was on morenos side in defence. there was a chelsea player on the ball and one of our lads [maybe can?] was closing him down. a second chelsea player came over and moreno followed in to cover the second player. ok.
the chelsea player on the ball faked a pass to his team mate, moreno stepped in. ok.
then the chelsea player on the ball turned away from his team mate and looked like he was going to move sideways... this is when moreno went to sleep...
the second chelsea player then moves sideways and makes himself available for the pass, moreno is still ball watching and eyes on the first player.
it all came to nothing, but it shows his lack of peripheral vision and awareness. compare with clyne, who is so often more aware of whats going on.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

If you look at the replays Moreno was watching Ramieres before he started making his run, as soon as he took his eye off him he surged into the box and caught Moreno flatfooted. Other than that he played really wellOriginally posted by MrMichael View PostI thought, mistake for their goal aside, he was a pretty strong performer today. That's not completely true though, he was dropped for Gomez for a few games in August but he played 41 games last season.Originally posted by kingfunk View PostHe done fine for someone who hardly had a foot in with Rodgers.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Not to nitpick (he says nitpicking) but that means he started 37 games though doesn't it, so about 70% of the season he was in the first XI?Originally posted by kingfunk View Post2014-15 was on the bench 16 times, unused 12 times. Maybe a bit harsh to say he didn't get a foot in, but hardly consistent.
Anyway I thought he done well, we need pace in the team and he provided some of that today.
Given he was new to the league etc and did make a couple of pretty horrible mistakes, I'd have said he played about as much as he should have last season, and while the Gomez experiment proved a bit limiting in the end it wasn't entirely crazy at least in the beginning. Never fully committing to a left side of Moreno & Sakho in a flat back 4 was one of Rodgers' many odd defensive decisions though.
Totally agree about the pace, he's certainly dynamic down that side and there was one moment today he showed great recovery speed to get back to cover a player who'd slipped through. With more experience and good coaching you'd have to think his concentration and situational awareness will improve, he only turned 23 in the summer after all. If he does continue to develop, which is of course not guaranteed, we could actually have a genuine player on our hands. And he's fun. Football should be fun.

Like I said in the match thread it was impossible to judge the extent of his error given how the trajectory of the ball wrong footed him once it became deflected.
Generally I think his defensive skills have improved a bit this year although that's not to say there isn't quite a long way still to go.
