I agree that we don't have great forwards to choose from but one up top does not work with Balotelli, Lambert or Borini. It's been tried over and over again. We have been toothless up top & so isolated. He is going to play Balotelli, just as it seems he going to play Johnson, Lovren & Gerrard as the DM. To me it makes sense to get another striker up there to give support to Balotelli & to give more options to the likes of Coutinho & Sterling. How many times have the midfield got the ball, look up andddddd there is nothing to aim for & no movement.

I'm not a huge fan of Borini, average footballer but what he does give is movement & effort, something that Balotelli has never had and never will have. Balotelli looks a horrible player in our current system. I was never a fan of him but he is better than this. Two up top with the diamond IMO is by far our best system.

Rodgers IMO just doesn't know what to do with the players he has at his disposal. But picking the same losing formula time after time, clearly is not working.

Sterling has never played up top which is why I think we've not been playing him there.

1 up top isnt working but you also forget we leaked so many goals last season with that formation but as we have Suarez and Sturridge we got away with it we've currently got -50+ goals in that side at the moment which I get the feeling is why he's trying to make us harder to break down.

In all honesty the summer window looks to be the biggest issue to me not moving Borini on and getting in the right type of player up top has left us making do until we get Sturridge back which won't be the sudden solution to all our issues.

if the one up top was suarez or studdige then the one up top wouldnt be the issue, its who the one up top is, and mario isnt the grafter we need.

we sold an 80m pound striker and spent 120m but only 20m of that on strikers and the main one isnt a goal scorer We then lost the only quality goal scorer we had. Simple really... Last year 2 top goal scorers, this year none. Did we need a 25m Lellana? Or did we need a quality goal scorer?

I said last season, when we still looked like we could win, that whatever happened it wasn't important in the long run - it was what we did in the summer. How much we spent and what we bought. Houllier had a good season and blew it in the summer - Rafa came second and did the same (his hands were tied financially). FSG have stumped up the cash, but it looks as though we've spent it in the wrong areas.

Other things that could shoulder blame:

Johnson. Dawdling back and barely making it into shot by the time the ball is in the net.

Mig. Weak hands (very minimal blame to Mig on this one as terrible as he is/has been)

Moreno. Turned his back on it. Look how the Warrington lads defended last night. Threw themselves in front of everything. No fear.

He was, no need to try and look elsewhere to excuse Coutinho.
100% solely his fault.

Nothing to do with Mingolet or Johnson or Moreno or anyone else.
The facts are this season Coutinho offers nothing defensively and offers very little end product.

Pretty bits of skill are pointless, doesn't score enough and doesn't create enough.

Go on, explain the roles of the full back and wide midfielder for us with a winger tucked in and overlapping full back for them.

I'm hopeful the over abundance we have in MF will make us stronger as the new players gel and maybe the defence will be finally fixed, but we still need another top striker, so this seson we'll be lucky to finish fourth as we didn't buy the main player we needed to stay at that level.
