If you only have 5 volunteers you will soon run into trouble when it comes to sudden death as you will then end up with players who don't want to take them.

I don't think Lovren looked very confident but he volunteered. Sometimes people will volunteer out of 'duty' even if they are **** scared and others won't volunteer but if asked or told to do it will and will do it well.

Also if we did only have 5 volunteers then maybe that Peters guy hasn't been doing such a great job after all.

I still think the Manager should decide. It's for the Manager to judge who are the best penalty takers and who looks in the right mental state to take one just like they have to do when they choose a starting 11.

I made a comment in the match thread at halftime that I thought there was a chance those missed chances in the first half would bite us on the arse and I was right unfortunately.

The defeat was mainly on Sterling and Rodgers imo.

Sterling needs a rocket up his rear end telling him when he's right through to put his foot through the ball. His reluctance to shoot is pathetic at times.

As others have said Rodgers should have taken Balotelli off and put Lallana on after around 60 minutes. At the same time he should have told Sterling to occupy a deeper more central role rather than being behind Sturridge in the hole to further condence the play in midfield and allow Besiktas less space there.

Had Rodgers done that I think we would have held on for a 0-0 draw.

      Frustrating

How on earth are we going to raise our profile if we get knocked out and perform like that in Europe?

That was probably our best shot of getting back into the Champions League. It was hard enough trying to sign a striker last year when we were in. Its going to be really hard to convince top players to join when we play like that.
Rodgers asks his players to play at 100 mph for every minute of every game...is this sustainable two games per week ?? Jurys out imo.

If we lay off the booze tomorrow night, we should be set - if not we'll just have to wing it...

                No he doesn't.

Pressing is a different matter, but we're in no way alone in applying that approach.

Really disappointing game. Think the atmosphere (and the pitch) got to our players. However, it will prove to be an excellent experience - especially for our younger players (and manager). We'll be better (in Europe) next season.

Think the criticism of some of our players (and manager) has been typically ott
