    That season we W 5 - D 3 - L 11 with a total of 18 points, this season we have 2 points from a possible 21.
Now we need to win all of our home games to stand a chance of finishing in the top 4, it ain't gonna happen.
In conclusion, we will finish outside the top 4 this season and we will be playing in the Uefa Cup in 07/08. Brace yerselves lads, it's gonna be a stinker of a season.
Want to have a wager on that?

    How about?

If we finish in UEFA Places at end of season, I'll buy you a new 2007/2008 Premiership shirt (with new branding)

If we dont you buy me one

      It's my opinion.

Highest league points is relative to the league that year dear. That argument is weak - call it spin. It's all about positions.

EDIT - **** i agreed with AA, check cabinet for vallies

I never thought we would win! WHY? because Chelsea have ruined football! thats why. They poach players, have ruined the games economy and all the while get praised in the media for how good they are on the pitch.

Its got nothing to do with Rafa. He has done a brilliant job so far. We have struggled so far this season in the league.....but thats a confidence issue, not a personnel issue. He bought one crappy player over the summer and people want his balls for it.

        You lot are ****ing bizarre.

Could you not have replied with the same post, but without the first line? AA's internet persona is not my favourite by any stretch of the imagination, but when he has said nothing insulting or abusive to anyone in this thread, is there really a need to do it to him?

Ok if Rafa getting us our highest points total is a weak arguement/spin then you must be saying Houllier was better as he finished second with less points. Is that right?

So what if we finished on 75 points and won the title? That would be better than getting our highest points total and coming third. I have to agree with Bob, it is relative to the league placings.

You're putting words into my mouth. I said it was a weak argument, i never once alluded to Houllier being a better manager.

We went on a great run at the end of that 'points tally' season. That run was perpetuated by the fact that second and first where in the bag. We had little to aim for (vain attempt at second) - the pressure was off!!

Bottom line is, we could in theory topple that points tally and finish forth. So using it in the context you did, is as i said 'weak/spin'.

                  Positions are all important.

If that happened then great but its not going to happen so long as Chelsea have silly money to spend. So all we can do is try and get as many points as possible. Last season we got our highest ever amount and really came as close to winning it as we have done in ages. We lost by 11 points. For anyone to suggest that Rafa can not crack or hasn't cracked the English league is laughable. If Rafa was in charge at Chelsea would he not be able to crack it there?

I don't play net games, but i have come across it before. I know a computing gamer and he's probably exposed me to it.

Could you imaging if we started coming out with l33t on these boards. AA would implode.

We also went on a great run of 10 straight league wins from November didnt we? Thats not at the end of a season when the pressure is off.

Oh and if we did finish forth with higher points then that highlights to me that we are moving forward but we are not keeping up with the top 3 so we would need more money to compete.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the norm round here.

I actually think that Rafa is the right manager to put us back as a genuine contender for the title, but my bugbear lies in the fact that people keep pointing out the highest point finish. Yes it showed improvement, but the trick is not to rest on those laurels, but to move onwards after that points total. I think there is too much unrest amongst the fans at the moment, but it is easy to see why people would be and are upset/angry/disheartened at what they are seeing by the team they love.

What I would hate to see would be discussions like that were taking place in Ged's last two years, where the fans were split into camps, spending more time trying to prove that their own point is the valid one and getting into arguements with one another, rather than realising that the guy who disagrees with them is not a knob for doing so, and is only fighting his corner because he shares the same passion and love for the club.

Figo didnt want to come to us, i dont even know why you are mentioning him TBH.

I can accept WHY Rafa spent the money on Pennant. He is young and has tremendous potential. He has been ****e for us everybody would agree. He lacks confidence, like the team, but he does have talent.

What i cant stand is knobheads slagging the manager off saying "he has spent his money on ****e" etc. He hasn't. He has spent his money very well, Pennant and Morientes being the exception. All his other MAJOR buys have been class...Xabi, Reina, Agger, Kuyt, Garcia, (IMO) Crouchie.

This season has so far almost been a carbon copy of last season.....crappy start...cant score...playing like ****e.....then we hit a good patch, the confidence builds and we go on a massive run.

Just for the hell of it. Who would you have spent the money on instead of Pennant?
Figo was a serious option and we probably would have had him if we'd put the money straight down. We dithered until Inter then became an option. And he went there. Had we have put the money down straight away before anyone else was in the running the deal could have been tied up. That's why I'm mentioning him.

Pennant incidentally has been **** for everyone not just for us. He was even **** for Bradford in the lower leagues. He's just ****. And he's not even a good pro. He does not have potential. He's the type of player who should never even be considered for Liverpool.

Your next paragraph is hugely optimistic but what it ignores is two things. Firstly, based on 45 away games (hardly an insignificant number) a typical season for Rafa will be 8 or 9 away losses before we even start on the home games. That is hardly cause for optimism. The second thing it ignores is the fact that a number of other clubs have made real progress. Portsmouth, Villa, Bolton, Everton are all clubs who will be fighting strongly for those top 6 places.

As to your final question, I'm not going to pluck a name out of the hat. I don't spend my working week watching football given that its not my job. But its a moot point anyhow. Because ultimately, given a choice between buying Pennant or buying nobody I would without doubt have bought nobody! If your argument is that Pennant was the ONLY player who was available, it no way follows that we should buy him just because of that.

If the choice seriously was Pennant or keeping the money in your pocket, the latter was by far the best option.
