Hope this injury doesn't hinder his development long term but I suspect with this type of injury he'll lose a few yards of pace and a perhaps a bit of mobility regardless of him being only 18. I know people like to reel off names of players that have come back from acl's but I can't think of a player you can say have come back exactly the same player without losing something i.e a bit of pace, mobility etc. The likes of Shearer and Ronaldo for example had to adapt their game.

This is terrible news. I hope it's not as severe when the results come in today.

Don't know why Southgate or the England U21 set up are to blame. It was during a match wasn't it? Not some experimental ligament straining training methods fiendishly employed by their coaches. He didn't join the squad carrying an injury. Do we need to blame anyone?

It's unfortunate, and annoying, but I can't understand hurling verbal abuse ("Southgate is scum" etc) at the England management team. Would it have been OK if he'd injured it training or playing with us? Would that make Klopp scum? Grow up FFS.

            Yep agree with that.

Its not like he was overworked or something. Hes an 18 year old lad starting out in football. I just think it was rotten luck

Its quite easy to blame international football, but during a game doesnt seem like anything other than being a victim circumstance.

Southgate being a dick is objective though, and I think he is. But then I still cant forgive him for this:

If he had said it looks a bad one then we'd have known what to expect. The fact he said it didn't look bad and it transpired it was is probably what annoyed people.

He got injured ... it happens ... Southgate did not noble him with a four x four ... go have a wank and calm down ...

That said we do seem to be perhaps the most unlucky team in terms of injuries with England ....Was it his ACL ? I know these days people are recovering from them a lot quicker than previously still it would be a stretch to see him this campaign

They suspect it's a rupture of his ACL which is at least 6 months. If it's not a rupture but a slight sprain, he won't need surgery so should be back much quicker than that
This city has two great football teams – Liverpool and Liverpool reserves

What did Lucas do...you know, the one where he did his knee, but the medical team had him play on for a bit to try and run it off? That was a pretty innocent looking challenge too, so if the medics can get it wrong, then i can't see how we can castigate Southgate for saying it didn't look serious.

Isn't the point that the Southgate / England shouters are trying to get across is that international football is a pointless charade, and that Joe Gomez has been lost to injury because of the pointlessness of international competition?
