Haha that’s fair- maybe I articulated it badly, but I guess I feel like we have bigger fish to fry- I’m more worried about first choices like Henderson and Fabinho not performing, than I am about the 4th choice center back being below average.

In reality though, we prob need to move Gomez or Matip on, to make room for a proper center back to come in to start next to vvd. Given the age profile I’d move Matip on before Gomez, unless we got a decent offer for Gomez.
    I don't tip

No, it can’t. And you’ll keep pedalling.
        Are we winning?

Re H&F; I’m most happy when niether of them are in the starting 11, especially so iff both are starting

A few people complained about our bench on the first day and I genuinely couldn't understand it. I thought we had good options for all positions. Joe, Nunez and Elliot were all excellent yesterday. Why Gomez wasn't brought on earlier is beyond me.

Here's Spurs bench from Saturday for a giggle:

              Substitutes
              4
              O Skipp 73'73rd minute
              5
              P Højbjerg 60'60th minute
              6
              D Sánchez
              12
              E Leite de Souza Junior
              14
              I Perisic 59'59th minute 71'71st minute
              18
              G Lo Celso 74'74th minute
              20
              F Forster
              27
              M Solomon
              33
              B Davies 82'82nd minute
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I was really pleased with what he did yesterday. Good decision making and really solid. Getting that result with that performance will hopefully give him the confidence to push on and get back to where he was.

I agree that Gomez did really well yesterday. He has talent and was a class partner for Virgil a few years ago when we were epic. However, he is injury prone and simply can't be relied on. If that wasn't the case, aboit 16.of the teams in the Premier league would have been all over him when he was no longer first choice!!! It would be amazing if he could somehow have a year or two without injuries because with regular games he would be brilliant. But if him and Matip weren't regularly out injured, then nobody would be calling for additional central defenders to be signed.

His injuries have mostly been unfortunate bad knee injuries tbf. It's not like he's constantly breaking down with soft tissue stuff ala Thiago, Ox and seemingly Konate. He was immense before that England training thing and his confidence has taken a battering since.

Was great to see him come on and show he still has what it takes.

I think Konate is also somewhat prone to injuries too, I think if we are playing a back 4 we are OK with the CB options we have, if we are wanting to play what is often almost 3 CBs then we need another option.

Even where we are at the moment it's not comfortable, next week VVD is suspended, if Konate is still out we are one knock away from Phillips or a youngster playing
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If Jo Go has someone to 'organize' him then he's good, but when he doesn't I worry.

Good job he had Kwansah (sp?) alongside him then, telling him what to do!

He would be horrible exposed in ouir current set up and become the latest whipping boy for cock ups beyond his control imo.

Random thought, what do people think about Gomez being the leftback if we are sticking with the inverted fullback.

He’s played there before and can play as the left sided CB. he’s got the pace but doesn’t have to join the attack. We can have a proper back 3 and if VVD is in the middle he’d have Konate and Gomez on either side with plenty of pace which might give VVD a bit more help and protection as well considering he’s lost a bit of pace as well.
