Looking at that list - the more they spent the less impressive the return on the investment!

Liverpool need to spend as little as possible!

all the signings leading up the last season look excellent. its only immobile and ramos on that list who you would say were complete ****. Even then immobile came with a very good record.

Thanks all So, generally very good? However, players were bought under a DoF (transfer committee ) system?

What went wrong in 2014/15? Apparently, Dortmund are doing very well again (since Klopp left).
          Another MASSIVE game

As mentioned two poor strikers were bought to replace Lew and then they hit an injury crisis of Arsenal in winter proportions!

Yeah its a good track record and I guess eventually you'll have an abject failure. That'd be Immobile.

Thanks Sounds like Dortmund's season was similar to ours (see Balotelli and Lambert )

Dortmund are miles away from Bayern this season, but tbf Bayern have won 8 out of 8, including a 5-1 win over Dortmund last time out.

Dortmund I feel are suffering as a result of success. They were the best team in the league and genuine challengers to Bayern for the other years. But I feel a hint of resignation crept in when Bayern signed Goetze and then Lewandowski off them. I think as soon as that happened it became harder to motivate the players and they suffered last year as a result.

They started the season well, but Bayern were up to the challenge and when you have to be perfect to keep up, a slight dip in form or results will kill you. High pressure to deal with.
                    Forwards.......

Would you say the Bundesliga (i.e. quality of teams and style of play) is similar to the Premiership?

I think the difference is that they were still playing well, they just weren't as clinical in either penalty box. A stats guy could or tell it better, but they basically scored goals at a lower ratio than should be expected with the chances created & the opposite was true at the other end, with the opposition scoring more than would be expected from ratio of chances created.

In simpler terms, they had less luck.

As shown in Europe in recent years, I'd say the Bundesliga is of a slightly higher quality. I don't watch as much German football as I do English, so couldn't give anything more than a basic comparison on styles of play. But I'd say in general English teams are more open and less organised defensively than German teams, but this is generally because teams are more expansive and gung ho in the Premier League.

Ok - maybe I've got this completely wrong (I probably have) but Dortmund under Klopp (style of play etc) sounds very similar to Liverpool under Rodgers? Am I being stupid? (Mattshark would say yes )

They had a Liverpool/Dalglish 2011/12 season in that regard - hitting the woodwork, always finding the keeper etc.

Well, we definitely need a manager (coaching team) that can organise our defence (make us tighter at the back). However, Klopp appears to be quite 'gung ho' in terms of his attacking philosophy. Interesting times ahead
