On the few occasions Liverpool have really clicked under Rodgers, I guess you'd be on the right track. In fairness, there is no secret to how Dortmund played. Many teams have since tried to emulate this and teams have attempted it in the past.

As people would say, he isn't going to reinvent the wheel. But he won't say anything to suggest such a thing either. I think the main difference between LFC 13/14 and Dortmund under Klopp is he had a team of stars, as opposed to a team heavily reliant on a few at LFC.

He is very much someone who builds on a solid foundation. Maybe that's his biggest difference to Rodgers. His team may look all over the place on the attack, swarming everywhere, but on closer inspection they still hold a solid shape.

He has already mentioned it here, talking about mastering the transitional phases, defence to attack & attack to defence. There is point being a counter attacking team and then an attack breaks down, being open to a counter from the opposition. A strength would end up being a weakness, as it would start to become counter productive if you scored and conceded at the same rate.

As spoken on here, in 13/14 we mastered the odds. We conceded bucket loads of chances, but by virtue of having strikers in red hot form and being the Kings of set pieces we were able to mount an unlikely title charge.

We were far too open in 13/14 to guarantee sustained success. It was almost park football, which in fairness made it so entertaining.

I think the closest performance we had in 13/14 to Klopp's Dortmund was our away win at Spurs. We were tight and compact all over the pitch.

I think with that game you have to take into account that Spurs were in free fall, that game was the final nail in the coffin for AVB. It was 2-0 at HT with Soldado having a goal wrongly ruled out, then they had a man sent off and went into meltdown.

I think under Rodgers are best performances were the 4-0 & 5-1 wins over Everton & Arsenal who were both in form before being demolished and then crashing & burning.

That Spurs game was good, but overrated I feel on here, Spurs were getting back into it before the sending off we were under real pressure. I'm not saying it wasn't a solid performance but I agree the Everton and Arsenal games were a level above, we were never in danger.

True both. Spurs were well ****e. I still feel it's an approximate in terms of the formation used and how we lined up with one striker upfront.

A stats guy could or tell it better, but they basically scored goals at a lower ratio than should be expected with the chances created & the opposite was true at the other end, with the opposition scoring more than would be expected from ratio of chances created.

In simpler terms, they had less luck.

absolutely. if you watch some of their games from last season - especially early on their performance werent that bad, and as you say they just couldnt put the ball in the net. At the other end, their defence was missing some key players and they got caught on the counter time and time again. They still managed to get to a german cup final as well.

they have plenty of valid / genuine reasons why their season unfolded the way it did whereas rodgers kept insisting the players were to blame for our ****idity.

The thing is when we clicked (13/14) we didnt play "death by football" we played high pressing counter-attacking football so in esence it wasnt reall Rodgers football

Klopp likes to press high up the pitch and with great intensity and turn play quickly and counter-attack BUT hes also not scared to dig in and defend well and go front to back quickly on the counter

I think we have the plays to press high up the pitch (not sure we can turn play that quickly though) but I dont think we have the players to sit deep defend and go front to back quickly we lack a good defence to do that and also we dont have a great deal of pace in the side either

I am really excited about the type of football that Klopp has talked about, I think pressing high is the biggest thing we havent done (and should of) over the last 12 months or so

I know a lot of people have concerns about his style wearing out the players but I strongly believe that his style is the only way we can challenge for the title. Financially we are never going to be as strong as City, Chelsea, Mancs in the next five years. It is going to be very difficult to build a squad at their level on a consistent basis. The two times we got close - 2009 and 2014 - we had every player playing at their peak giving it whatever they got.
