No because he's a lethal cunt on his day and is arguably the deadliest finisher in the league. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt today although he is slow as ****.

He's not the problem right now, it's a team thing not just Sturridge who is nowhere near fit enough right now.

Yup. His pace was his strength and that's gone. He's a Chelsea version of Torres now probably a better finisher but past his best by some way. We might be able to mug Arsenal

In principle i think that would be reasonable, but money isn't our issue at the moment, we should have plenty and we can't get top end quality where we need it. Selling him probably wouldn't achieve anything.

Selling Sturridge at this stage would be suicidal.
          Are we winning?

              yep.

he can be a great finisher but i think the days of him being a worker are finished.
he might have the odd good game, do ten minutes graft here and there but compared to mane, origi or ingsiho he isnt going to take the pressure to the other teams.

and cue a hat trick next game...

It's true though. Ending the summer with £50m in the bank and minus our biggest purveyor of goals would be akin to a collective act of Hara Kiri.

We are better at counter attacking teams have been for some time

Even when we played the possession game under Rodgers we struggled to breakdown teams and create chances

Klopp had it right post match its not possession that matters it's getting shots on target

Generally the team with the most shots on target wins matches. Most of our shots today were from outside the box and off target

Our situation is further complicated because not only do we struggle against teams that sit deep but we are also wide open to counter attacks (which is why we need a holding player)

I think we should have started with Moreno today, they were always going to play counter-attacking and we knew they had someone with pace up front. Moreno's the one player who would have had the pace to keep up with Gray (although Klavan did quite well against him a few times). In terms of our attack Mane might have made a difference today, Coutinho was our only player who looked like scoring. A bad day.

Sturridge works best with another strike partner, as he can then have the freedom to roam around the pitch, while the other striker can stay advanced.

I've thought about this for a while, but what about Sturridge as a No.10? He lacks the pace, but has the brain and clever movements to spot space. This would allow Origi to stay in advanced areas.

Origi gives us the directness to get beyond defensive lines, hold the ball up, as well as the technical ability to take defenders on quickly, and shoot.
Yeah, I didn't read the match thread tbh. I'm not sure he'd work as a number 10 as he tends to want too much time on the ball when he's been dropping deep and he seems to be slowing play down.

Klopp has hinted he's open to all manner of different formations in his interviews, so maybe he'll get a go as a second striker. I don't think it was all down to Suarez that Sturridge's best spell came when he was in a pair up top with a license to roam.

A bad day indeed. Moreno and his pace would have been useful

I clearly approach and have a different mentality to you when it comes to life mate and I have nothing against that but be honest, can you see us beating teams every single weekend because I can't?

I've been around too long G as I'm sure you have, I've seen the same abject failure nearly every year apart from 2005 and the odd Cup win. I am not going to give a false belief, I need to feel that confidence in the team or anything else in life for it to work and I just don't feel it with us. It's more hope than anything, perhaps if we go on a long run of wins that may change but it doesn't mean I don't support the team. I will never turn my back on them.

I wish I could feel the way you do about it but I cannot seeing use outscoring teams and breaking teams like Burnley down when it really matters on days like today.

You don't have to feel the way I do but you don't need to put up posts telling me I've changed my tune either when I haven't. If you have nothing against my view why bring it up? I can be annoyed and frustrated at an abject display while still having hope and faith that when the big picture plays out it will have ended well for us.

Good game was it lads? It's exactly the sort of result that I expected. I assume we bossed it and had shot after shot?

When you don't spend big on game changers ala Chelsea, city and Utd you will keep coming up short. Good times.

We should be better than that by now, we've seen enough of that to last a lifetime.
