It's not that I'm determined to ignore anything he does wrong, it's just that picking on such tiny issues is nitpicking of the highest order. No player goes through a game doing everything 100%, Lovren was beaten for for two headers for that goal for example, **** just happens. But we hear 'he's garbage defensively etc' in response to one minor positional slip up (that is debatable anyway) and it is just bizarre to say the least. If that was Milner, nobody mentions it.

Honestly, nobody would pick out the LB as the problem with their second goal unless they were looking to. And I can't imagine the names he would have been called if he had put his arms out and had conceded a penalty by the very same people.

How was he at least partly not responsible for their second when he just stood off and let zaha cross? It's not all his fault, but if you stop the ball you stop the goal. Simple stuff. Basics. Lovren was ****ing awful for both goals. Karius was proper David James style **** for the first.

Honestly if it was Milner doing it I would have mentioned it too. It's just cos its Albie that people say it's nit picking in the first place. He's a defender and he didn't defend the cross. We'll never agree on him, he's not a good defender on a consistent basis and that's why he's second choice.

As for the hands I'd be raging at the ref if the ball hit his hands and he gave a penalty because he'd be showing, like a lot of people it seems, that he doesn't understand the handball rule.

Exactly. Not all his fault but then nobody said it was. Praise and criticism are allowed and got both off me. Lovren has got plenty of pelters too over the years but he came out the other side.

And if he doesn't stand to try and limit Zaha's options and go for the ball then you leave yourself open to getting skinned and Zaha is running towards the goal. It's not as basic as you suggest. Players play the odds, blocking the shot at goal/whipped cross across the six yard box and letting others deal with a cross that gets passed is totally normal, I'd be surprised if the coaches want it any other way.

i was more pissed off at moreno not getting tight to the guy who was crossing the ball rather than his hands being behind his back.

if he gets tighter then the ball cant hit his hands as he'd be almost toe to toe with the attacker.
even if he was a yard or two away and the ball hit his hand then the ref probably wouldnt give a pen as he isnt moving his hand to the ball and he'd be so close he would have no way of getting out of the way.

i want to see our defenders doing some defending. do the basic things well, then go get a daft ****ing hair cut

As good a game as the ref had, Zaha should have been booked for being a diving ****.

That's a bit unfair there was one occasion where Zaha entered our penalty area and didn't throw himself to the floor.

OK, just watched it back, what was the problem with Moreno and their second goal? Must have been pretty bad to write off his defensive performance as garbage, but i can't spot it.

Should have been closer to Zaha that's all. Gave him too much room to cross. Moreno had a decent game but we so need a proper quality player in that position.

Yeah I know but if he spent a couple of hours a week hitting the ball with it in training, he wouldn't get himself so ****ed up trying to use his left in certain situations. It annoys me that a pro can't use both feet comfortably. They have so much time on their hands to kill.
