They'd have defo rolled over if we'd dropped points today, as it is they'll probably just assume we'll beat Boro and play normally, they can always leak a few late on if we are in bother. This all forgets they are absolutely hopeless away from home anyway. We'll batter Boro so all irrelevant thankfully.

They even have a thread on GOT about it and not minding losing as long as the red****e don't get CL football.

Seems like the stopping Liverpool trophy is up for grabs.

That sort of ****e really rips knitting.

Means **** all at the end of the league season. There's no 'top six' trophy and frankly it's embarrassing that any of our fans would grasp at / take solace from such pish.

The league is 38 games against 19 different teams.

Hopefully champions league next season's will enable us to sign several first team players will see us be able to put away the 'lesser' teams while continuing to hold our own (and more) against the better teams in the league.

The poll in that thread is
If a loss to Arsenal handed them 4th over RS, would you be happy?
          The current responses
No, always want the win - 26% (64 votes)
Yes, I know it seems bitter, but who cares -74% (182 votes)
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I believe no one is taking any "solace" at it. It's merely a point of what could have been or maybe should have been. Come out on top against the best yet it all slip against the so called weak teams. It's definitely worth looking at, and improving on.

I don't think that anyone takes it seriously it's just a way of telling you why you are behind your rivals. We are where we are because we can beat the teams around us but do worse against the poorer sides, that is all this highlights.

If anything the only thing it does to me is act as a source of frustration.

The thing is the games we have lost were winnable. Bad mentality on the day and lack of squad depth to blame.

Our form for 2 seasons against the big teams tells you we are not all that far away.

There are many reasons to be optimistic.

We've a fantastic manager and a quality first eleven. Today shows us that we need to keep wee Phil, and I think we will get one more season from him. I also think Klopp is a great judge of a player, look at the work he has done with the likes of Lallana and the majority of the guys we have brought in.

The glass is very much half full for me.

In the wider context of course the league is over 38 games but I disagree that that table means **** all - if shows that we can better the big teams which augers well for the future. Add some flat track bullies and we'll be s much better all round proposition next season.

If we finish 4th when do the CL qualifiers take place?

The solace we can certainly take is we're currently 3rd with 73 points, which is an excellent return amidst all the competition and spending £10m net. It's not a trophy and no one will be holding any parade for that, but that shows progress and shows we are more likely to improve. There is no guarantee anymore nowadays even if you spend £500m.
                      Are we winning?

I thought it was going to be earlier, I must have been thinking of Europa League. Those dates aren't too bad, the league season starts around then anyway.

                            My sentiments exactly.
Buy some quality and quantity and we can change systems if needed against the "lesser teams" that we struggle against.
Looking forward to next season CL or not.

The team that won the league lost 4 games against 'the top six'

It really is a meaningless table / stat.

I wasn't having a go at yourself in my original post.

Merely voicing my displeasure that Sky Sports have someone sought to publish a 'top six' table as though it is in anyway relevant to the overall league campaign.

It's galling. When we're really at it we're the best side in the country ffs.
