Agreed the root cause of fatigue issues is overplaying as a result of the schedule. Slot hasn’t trusted the squad though to rotate and has only just started this fatigue forecasting model as the reason for substituting players.

It is a model and although there will be some clever algorithms behind it, it’s not going to be right 100% of the time. Players are individuals and there isn’t the dataset size available for an individual unless that individual is a perma-crock like Naby!

The only real way to test the model is to play someone until they do have a fatigue injury multiple times to calibrate the model to the individual.

The model must be pretty coarse as it didn’t predict problems at the start of last season when Frimpong had a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

Well that’s just how my simple mind sees it anyway.

I am wondering if there is some sort of rift between the players and the likes of Hughes (not having brought players in treatment of players like Robbo, Elliott etc) possibly the sports science guys and the way subs etc are planned based on this. Not clear to me which side Slot might be on if he were against Hughes and Co I suspect he would have been sacked by now, I wonder if he is trying to play peacemaker or keep some kind of balance.

All pure speculation on my part...

The thing with the sports science is it should be coming in to account when building the squad. At the start of the season we knew we would be playing a minimum of 49 games (38 PL, 8 CL, 1FA, 1LC, 1CS), in all likelihood something more like 55 would be typical, higher still if we went far in multiple competitions.

Doing the maths on that 55 games x 10 outfield players x 90mins = 49500 outfield mins. You divide that by the number of senior squad players which is 19 but that includes the likes of Endo and Chiesa, who are essentially fringe players so take them out 17, you probably need to account for injuries say 2 players out for whole season so 15. 49500/15 means each of those 15 players need to play 3300 mins on average (just under 37 full games) over the season. Does the sports science allow for that given half of our squad have looked knackered after 60muns most games I would suggest not. This is before you break it down by position or anything and IMO underestimates the number of injuries, clustering of games, the impact of international games etc, but to me it's clear the pool of usable players in the squad was never big enough...

It didn't start under Slot. Klopp did it too. It's one of the reasons he called for increasing subs from 3 to 5 like the rest of Europe.

It's a common practice too, it's not just a Liverpool thing.

Also, they have plenty of data that allows them to tailor these things individually.

I was saying to a mate yesterday that I think the disruption to our preseason caused by the Jota tragedy might be what's causing the drop in endurance and intensity among the players at this point of the season. This is the first time in a long time that, going into a game, I don't automatically think our players are fitter than the opposition. It wasn't the case last term and that's the biggest change to preseason we had that I can think of.
It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

Preseason is definitely a factor, but I think that also having so many players who are new to the PL is another factor as (Wirtz, Frimpong, Ekitike etc) and players who aren't used to playing multiple games a week (Kerkez etc) comes into it too, the problem is fitness problems are only going to get worse as the season goes on. We are really short of players.

I know Elliott wasn't used much last season but I honestly feel if we had him back he would get more mins, maybe not start games but if Wirtz has to go off after 60-70mins he could get mins there, he could play from the right or in CM to give others a break, and he did well from the bench last season. As a minimum I would be looking to bring him back.

We're not. We do take risks with it too.

But Frimpong is player who's already had 2 periods out with hamstring issues this season.

So cant blame them for being cautious with him.

Especially as he never had an injury before

Yep and we’re already missing our other RB to long term injury and Gomez also got injured earlier in the same game.

No, but it's a planned sub based on the science saying he'll explode at 61mins, so we need to put Szobo in defence (to add to the other midfielder at CB) and reshape the entire team. Focus on the game ffs.

The terms of Andy Robertson's move from Liverpool to Tottenham are agreed in principle for around E5m including add-ons. However, there is no sign off from Liverpool or Robertson yet.

Liverpool will only sell, and Robertson give a green light to move, if #LFC can bring in a replacement. Liverpool have struggled to get Kostas Tsimikas because there is no
recall clause in his Roma loan.

Roma will only sanction his exit if they find a left-back replacement. Roma had a E7m bid rejected for David Møller Wolfe and continue to explore other options. Liverpool and Robertson relaxed about the situation, but if Roma find a left-back, Spurs' move for the Scotland international could be back on.

If not, Robertson will stay at Anfield. Robertson's professionalism has been noted having been informed earlier this week the move to Spurs, originally planned for after the #UCL
game against Qarabag, is not on at present. One to watch in the final days of the window in case Roma sign a new leftback.

Yeah let's move another defender out and bring back one that will probably need a little time to get back up to speed as he was not playing much at Roma.

Keep Robertson and just bring in a summer target CB if possible.

XG rating for Steven Gerrard is not going to be the same as XG for Lucas Leiva if he's in exactly the same position though. It's a bit of a blanket stat.

EDIT - didn't realise I wasn't on the last page and continued the XG chat.

Just keep Robertson, he is a ****ing king and my favourite player. Tsimikas can **** off with his greek scouser cult status. Makes no sense.
