We are way too open in the middle of the park which ultimately puts uneccesary pressure on a back line which we all know is far from convincing. Can is the only player who can put a tackle in and that's only when he's up for it. Wini & Henderson cannot both play away from home. I'd love us to go out and buy an intimidating box to box midfielder who can tackle. I'm sick of us being so easy to get through. The spine of the team isn't strong enough IMO. Centre half, centre mid, centre forward please asap.

Yup, there were a few times there where they went from their own box and the first time we got eyes on a tackle was at the edge of our own. It was knife through butter stuff. It can't help the defence.

Hoffenheim were no mugs and out-pressed us in the first half and we gave the ball away too easily. They couldn't maintain it for much into the second and overall we were the better side and deserved the win.

Jurgen sounds like a teenager in love talking about TAA. Which is just a little weird..
          Really?

Brilliant result, should have scored more. Trent is going to be a legend here, the only question really is his long term position. Great quality and mentality!

I don't care if we sign a big pacey grok at this stage. Just need someone to break up play and be in the opposition's faces without giving away needless freekicks.

Great result there but lot to he concerned about.
Completely agree. Some of the positions taken and challenges attempted by Moreno and Lovren, particularly in the first half were awful. We need to sign a central defender quite desperately, or at very least give Sakho a game. Lovren and Klaven definitely shouldn't be starters. If van Dijk isn't available surely we can look elsewhere. Manolas, de Vrij, Garay or anyone else should be looked at. Surely there are other capable players available.

We rode our luck and I'm unsure why our defenders like to side foot clearances into each other or straight to the other side. Solanke looks like I was totally wrong about him. Like his pressing. Our squad is very thin as you can't rely on Mane and Salah every game.

Main thing is to qualify. At all costs. Halfway there.
On this point, Klopp should look at Markovic as a backup option if he can't be sold. Perhaps he could fit in and do a job with a few minutes here and there. Don't think he's the right kind of player for Klopp but could prove to be useful if given the opportunity. I don't think he was named in the Premier League squad, I may be mistaken. Probably will end up being loaned out on deadline day.

It was a good result but the performance was all over the place, the score could have been anything. Defensively we were a mess and could have conceded alot, attack-wise we missed some sitters.

The biggest problem is that the balance of the side isn't right, despite not really having an attacking midfielder in the midfield 3 we can't compensate for the attacking fullbacks, and constantly get caught out. The midfield 3 of Henderson, Wijnaldum and Can doesn't work, swapping Henderson out and Milner in left us in the same position. Firmino isn't a main striker. I know players are missing but the side just feels a mess now.

Klopp was saying they targeted us with long diagonal balls towards our full backs, which makes sense and is very difficult to defend. We aren't a defensive team, so we're always going to have a few hairy moments defensively. I'd rather have that than be drab and boring like a Mourinho team.
                    Are we winning?

Lovren is shocking - he has a Skrteleque ability to spread panic and make the team drop deep when holding on. Gave away the pen, playing them onside for the goal, wild clearances and general ****eness. VVD is a massive upgrade on him but so would most centre backs.

Moreno looked dodgy defensively again and positionally suspect.

Hendo looks physically ****ed, he can't run properly and is being brushed aside by opposition teams. I think he is done due to his injuries.

Gini has been a passenger in both games.

We badly need another CB and central midfielder and Phil to stay and no injuries for the rest of the season

If we don't bring in VVD or another centre back something is seriously wrong because it's clear to everyone that we need someone better in there.

Win away to a German team that hasn't lost at home for over a year and even with all the upset & injuries in the camp at the moment you're concerned.

In defence of Gini, he was about to go off at half-time at Watford. Don't think he's 100% but I don't think we have many options. Same with Hendo, obvs.

Still shaky at the back but we played well tonight, exciting to watch.
