I think so too, and I stand by what I said, it might be for the best, for argument let's say Xabi comes in and this allows us to get in someone to fit his tactics. Like the accounts show, we don't usually splash the cash unless we sell. This is the time to finish the 2.0 revamp.Originally posted by Deano View PostFWIW - Mo goes this summer for a fee or next summer on free - no way Edwards offers a deal here* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

That was me and still is me.
If Jota could stay fit for a full season and keep racking up his goal numbers then keeping him makes sense.
But if we got a massive offer for him, one more than what we have paid for him, then I would be not be against selling him. His injury record with us (three out of four seasons with us he has had injuries that have seen him out for months on end each time) is my main issue.
Think I am safe enough when it comes to Nunez, Gomez, MacAllister Endo etc as never called for their heads afaik, quite the opposite. Jones I have rated highly for some years so would never have suggested selling him.
VVD I would sell but ONLY if he was the one pushing for the move or after another couple seasons have gone by.
Salah I would sell ONLY if he was the one trying to force the move and even then the offer fee would have to be huge otherwise he can see out his contract as the numbers he puts up are just too good to want to sell him without him being the reason why.
TAA is one that I am on the fence over though. Mainly due to his contract situation. He signs an extension and that doubt vanishes but given he is entering the final 12 months of his contract soon there will be that "should we try to cash in or is he going to go an a free?" type discussions needed.
For me there are shades of the Michael Owen situation there. Talk last season about a new contract, talk at the start of this season about one, talk around Xmas about one. Also this talk of a new contract and then months later the same thing being said again. I suppose now the talk will be of waiting to see who the new manager is and how things go under that person, but at that point the next contract milestone coming up will be him reaching six months remaining.
Actually there is another player I would consider selling if the offer was right and we had somebody really good in mind to buy and that player is Diaz. But again I would be in no hurry to sell because if we started the next season with the same squad we have now and the other new players that came in where to replace the players we are pretty sure are leaving anyway (Thiago, Matip and Adrian) with more durable players then we would begin the new season with a tried and tested high calibre squad.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think that there are a few issues to be dealt with here which are obviously for the new footballing team Edwards/DoF/Manager to work out, regarding style of play, budget and contracts etc. Personally I really like the squad and where it is at the moment, I feel a couple of relatively minor tweaks and we are in a very strong position. I don't feel like we need to rip up things and start again in any area of the side I think it is evolution rather than revolution that is needed, obviously the new guys will have their own ideas. Salah and VVD are key players at the moment and have a few years left in them (assuming no major injuries). I would be looking to phase them out over a period of at least a couple of years as a succession plan rather than trying to sell them now (or in the not too distant future). I can see that Salah is a saleable asset and given his age etc I can see why that might be tempting but he has alot to offer and will be incredibly difficult to replace.
The other thing that we need to be aware of is that it is a squad game, and we need to be managing players minutes, for me players like Konate and Jota are top players but I don't think either can really play more than one game a week, with an expanded CL programme I feel that rotation is going to be key going forward so I feel like the phasing some of the older players out over an extended period probably works well for everyone.
I agree with what you say about TAA, I really like him as a player but I am not sure where he fits into the side even at the moment, for me we have looked a more cohesive/balanced side while he has been out. I get the idea behind the hybrid role but I'm not sure it works that well, I don't see him wanting to go back to his old RB role and I don't see where he would fit in midfield, again this is one for the new guys to figure out but my feeling at the moment is they either build a team around him or move him on as another very saleable player...The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think it was Jaco who talked about manager's ego and how Xabi would have no concerns following Klopp. Similarly, I think a good manager will see past any alleged issues with Trent and believe they can get him operating at the world class level he is clearly capable of.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He'll have a year left on his contract this summer so the only big transfer offer will come from Saudis. And I very much doubt he will want to go this year.
So probably following scenarios
1. lowball transfer offers from likes of PSG which we would refuse so he leaves on a free in 2025 but we get a final season from him
2. we extend his contract to 2027, and he goes to Saudi then
If though the Saudis did offer 200m this year and he wanted to go, we would be idiots to turn that down, given he'd leave on a free 1yr later.Last edited by BG1973; 13-03-24, 06:54 PM.

I saw Mark Lawrensen claim a while back that Salah is 100% gone in the summer because of some agreement last year. But it's Lawrensen so I don't believe it is as nailed on as he claims. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Hmmm not so sure - His advisor Remi is a bellend, I think next manager gives him an excuse to up sticks and go - TBF £100m in the bank for him wouldn't be bad either.Originally posted by Big-Red-Ed View PostMo is far too competitive to go to Saudi which is already looking like a busted flush
YNWA
PSG always an option for him as well, but they wouldn't be paying anywhere near that feeI make no apologies, this is me

He is ****in brilliant
I think we might just keep him for another season and then he goes on a free.. Like Bobby. Like Gini. Like Emre Can. And to be honest, Virgil could go the same way. We have got our money worth out of both of them.
Maybe we get a bumper offer this summer from either psg or Saudi. Or somewhere like Juventus. Or even Real Madrid. Just because they have Mbappe, maybe they'd fancy Salah too.
Id love if he did 10 years with us and went for the all time goal scorer for lfc. He is approx 130 goals shy of that so it would be a huge ask but what a ****in target to go for. Would be brilliant. And I think he is such a ****in machine and an intelligent ****er too that could adapt. He could become a #10 ffs and be so effective there too
