    Who knows tbh.

What I do know is that replacing his goals and assists will not be as easy as all that. Nor will the fact he basically never gets injured.

It’s going to be great after the international break though. We’ve got so much depth and we will have a lot of games. We will be seeing a lot more of Darwin and Gakpo and also getting to see how Chiesa fits in.

He's 32 now, 33 in the summer, the club don't want to commit to a large salary for 4 years when his level could drop off or we could have replaced him in the side and we are paying a squad player 300k a week. If that happens it is difficult to get him off the books because of his wages. I get that bit, I doubt they would offer more than 2 years as that takes him to 35, and by that age, most players are way past their best. But IMO we need to be looking at him as an individual rather than your average 35 yo PL player, look at his fitness and performance levels and to me it looks like he has at least another couple of years.

I think we need to be sensible about it. I woulld see how he is doing in a couple of months. But restric it to 2 years with an option matbe... But I am not sure about the 300k he is on now.

The last few season he runs out of energy after Christmas, or if there is an ACN. If we are top or close to City, I think he would be happy to stay, so I think that gives us a bit of power in any negociation. HE could have engineered a move to Saudi for silly money, and he didnt, because I think he want top be playing at the top level while he still can. HE certainly seems a bit sharper, but I wonder if that is a subtle difference in tactics with him coming more centrally. I still think we could play him in the middle, and stick NEWGUY out on the right?

It is tricky. The wages of the four new contracts might be a big financial burden and the club have to decide whether to use one of those mega contracts on Mo or Mo’s replacement. If it was for a year or maybe two then it’s an easier decision, but if he expects longer then it could hit succession planning. Same with Virg who’s 33 now. Of course we’re attached to them and are desperate to see them stay but we’re not charged with running the club sustainably and planning for the long term.

I’m confident that the club aren’t looking at this from a penny pinching perspective and John Henry wants a new super yacht instead, so you’ve got to trust that the people making decisions are doing it with the best intentions, the last decade has earned them that imo.

Thiago left, Matip left - that’s close to 400k p/w there. We also shifted a load of fringe players - ideally extend VVD and Mo for 2+1 each on the same wage and increase Trent and give him 4 more years

I'm quite glad I'm not the one making the decisions.
              Oh I don't know.

I think that if Mo and Virg were prepared to sign for an extra year (maybe 2) then it would all have been tied up already.

I’m also not convinced by the idea that Mo is different physically and can be the same player well into his mid 30s, well maybe it’s possible, but is absolutely not a given, especially in his position. Look how quickly mane fell off, he’s currently stinking up the Saudi league after struggling for a year in Germany. It would be criminal if he was still with us earning hundreds of thousands a week. Yes, Mo is fit and capable at 32 but he could be totally washed at 35/36.

Surely the club wouldn't want to commit circa 70m in wages to keep vvd and mo for a few extra years without knowing that they were both critical to the Slot project

Rashford, Teddy Sheringham and some lad Dennis Violet (in 1959) share the record of 9 consecutive appearances at old trafford in which they have scored. Salah is currently on 7. Ffs if for no other reason, extend his contract, so he can hold that record.

Van nistelroy, Rooney and Ronaldo all peaked at 6 btw.
                      I don't tip

Unless we meet them in both the FA Cup and League Cup. Then he can stay for an extra season then bugger off

They should keep their contract comments to themselves

Ridiculous numbers. 14 goals and 6 assists. In 3 years. Against one opponent.

I think this might be the happiest I've seen him playing for Liverpool. Looks to be absolutely loving it.
