wasn't too happy to see him back in the team the first time or two he was on at the end of the season, but was one of our very best players in the run-in. hope his injuries clear up, he gave us something we didn't have.

saw him and harvey elliot without shirts in the last couple of match coverage, and they--particularly harv--have been hitting the gym. harvey looked about 10-15 pounds heavier than he was.

Apparently he's been one of the best players all the tournament, he's playing a double pivot and outshining players like Thuram honestly. Would be great to see him step up and claim a place.

Plenty of the other teams have players the same age and he bossed them too.

He has been really good throughout the tournament.

He definitely has his confidence back and is looking really good. On another note, this tournament has had some really good matches. And the Hansi effect seems to have trickled down to Germanys youngsters

He is also tall which helps a lot, very hard to knock him off the ball.

Tell you what, if Jones was with some other club and putting in the performances he did for us last season and again this summer for England, we would all be putting him on our lists of players we should sign.

He done well towards the end of the season when he got more game time which was great to see. He has had a good tournament for England, as have many of their player but I would certainly not be in the category of "putting him on a list of players we should sign" based on this small sample size. I would put him in the "He's done well recently & lets see what happens" category.

He's young, he has ability, he'll get some game time this season & lets see if he can progress and find the consistency and quality that can make him a main stay in the side. I feel this is another optimism vs realism conversation again, let's not get carried away and just see how he goes. Personally I have no issues with him in the squad but I feel he's only a squad player at the moment with others in that midfield ahead of him in the pecking order.

Also, I feel like I'm going to be called miserable again for this post

Wouldn't go as far as that but his recent form and progress is really encouraging. The two new additions, Fab, Thiago, Jones and Bajcetic (and Trent?) allows for a strong midfield.

It is not an optimism vs realism conversation at all.

Jones has generally been good and showed improvement whenever he got a run of games. So any optimism about him is based on what he has actually shown on the pitch.

That freak eye injury is the main reason we did not get to see what would have happened if he had been available more often.

But for me if he stays fit he is easily good enough to be the first back up choice for the LCM role or maybe the RCM role. So I think if he was playing for another club and putting in performances like he has, then yes we would be looking at him and saying he is a young player that could come in as first choice cover with maybe the potential to be a starter in time.

Plus we have plenty saying Lavia would be great for us. The same Lavia with an even smaller number of games to judge him on and who is not even getting games on a regular basis for the Belgian under 21s.

Be warned, Jones has just joined Thiago on my "defend to the death against Perkins" list.

Oh just in case nobody says it................. you miserable twunk.

I really do think we would. I think we would be saying his name along with the likes of Gravenberch and other young midfielders that have been mentioned as good squad options that have the potential to get a lot better.

And it is not just recent form with Jones. He has tended to show improvement any time he got a run of games and not just last season.

                                Definitely a good squad option
