Mac. As per the post. I think he's brilliant but tired. Why not give jones a run now. When he's on his game he has more attacking threat than any of the others in the squad that play midfield.

Not pretending anything fella, so not really sure what you're on about, both things can be true. He was an average defender (you said it) that was the cause of so many goals against us and that's with CBS breaking their bollox to cover for him but yes he was probably one of the best attacking fullbacks in football in his pomp. 2 years is a long time in football.

Yeah, you said give Alexis a rest - it wasn’t obvious you meant you’d drop him for the rest of the season.

I don’t think that would be a good idea, Jones isn’t as tenacious/defensive as Mac and I think we’d suffer for it.

Not many starts though and hence that lack of rythmn.

Not sure how I'd feel.. go and get more gametime and realise my personal potential or the opposite but for my own club who will win trophies.

He’s had 22 starts, so actually the majority of those he started.

22 starts, 16 times subbed on in 38 games.

Szobo has 41 games so far and subbed on in 7 of those.

Mac Allister is 43 games and subbed on in 7 of those.

Jones has improved a lot but Mac Alister and szobo have also done very well.

He’s an important first team player and right where he should/deserves to be right now. Slot has it right here imo.

I’ve seen Jones get plenty of stick over the years and today, although not here but elsewhere for today’s game. But for me this is the type of player you need to win consistently over the years. While he may never be world class or the best this or that what he offers reminds me of why the mancs did so well for years.

They had those players that played plenty of games but were never first choice. Think of the Butts, the other Neville, O’Shea, Jonny Evans and Darren Fletcher types of players. These guys came through the club and loved the club and were happy to do the job no matter what. They could fill in when needed, be consistent and let the others excel and never let you down. They knew what the club meant and that gave them a little extra they might not show for other teams and were still happy to be part of it even when not starting every game.

Have your superstars but you need those good club men that are willing to sacrifice for the team and fill in, be squad players cover a bunch of positions. And always giving it their all. Jones for me right now fills this perfectly. He can cover all three in midfield, loves the club and does what is needed and is continuing to improve with age and experience.

If the academy can supply these types of players for me that’s a success. Save the big money for one or two top players and have players from the academy fill in the squad. Obviously if we can produce top talent as well that would be great.

To add. at some point one of the first choice will be injured giving likes of Jones and Elliot a better chance to impress, get into a rhythm and who knows what from there.

All about whether they are happy to stay not being first choice, not whether we should actively sell.
