PL decision forced upon them by City and Arsenal, who reckon delaying the match could scupper us in the long run?

    Comment

It's not the whole squad. The article say

"Manchester City's Premier League match with Arsenal on Wednesday has been postponed as a "precautionary measure" and several Gunners players are in self-isolation after Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis contracted coronavirus.

Arsenal say Marinakis, 52, met a number of their players when the Gunners hosted the Greek side in a Europa League match two weeks ago."

Then that's just like having injured players how can they just postpone this game only? Surely they would then have to quarantine the whole squad and the players from all the games they have had played in the last 2 weeks.

Secondary contacts are a lower risk factor, but it's the fact that the match and the contact with the infected was 2 weeks ago. Any players with symptoms would be displaying them by now, so it's a pointless gesture to postpone the match.

          further down the beeb article

"The 14-day period ends on Friday and Arsenal said they were "looking forward" to the players returning to work before their Premier League game at Brighton on Saturday, 14 March."

Yeah, just seen that...seems a bit odd to self-isolate for 3 days tho, given they've spent the last week and a half mingling with others. Still, no matter, City would have always won that game, so from our point of view there's no change.

I have some sympathy for the PL in this instance, if the game goes ahead without a few 1st teamers from Arse they would get slaughtered, as unfair advantage to City; if they postpone they get slaughtered for overreaction. If they don't cancel in the current heightened state of panic around the country/world they would get slaughtered. Damned if they do, etc.

For LFC & fans the issue is we are panicking about the league not being completed, i don;t see this happening as the PL brand need it to be completed. the FL i can see being curtailed however & as a consequence a few clubs will go to the wall unfortunately.

Clubs are in real trouble regardless of season being cancelled. Closed doors for a few home games will be enough
                  Football without Origi is nothing

Arsenal players due back Friday. I guess that depends on none of them displaying symptoms.

Arsenal's game against Manchester City tonight has been postponed, as some of their players are in isolation. Here is the timeline of events:

Thursday 27 February: Arsenal knocked out of Europa League by Greek side Olympiakos
Tuesday 10 March: Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis announces on Instagram he has the virus
Tuesday 10 March: Arsenal "trace any individuals who had close contact with him at the game 13 days ago", and self-isolation begins
Wednesday 11 March: Arsenal say "some players are unavailable for tonight's match against Manchester City and the Premier League has decided the game should be postponed"
Friday 13 March: Affected players and staff due to return to work
Saturday 14 March: Arsenal due to play Brighton as scheduled
                    Modifying post.

No, but it might be delayed which will be interesting for players who have expiring contracts

Assuming they cancel Euro 2020. Even then, there'd have to be a cut off point to have the 19/20 season completed by.

Euros aint gonna happen. Not at this current rate. Not in Italy at the very least.
