It’s not just the referee though, there are 2 assistants (linesman) and a fourth official who can also intervene. So basically, 4 officials failed to spot one of the most obvious fouls/bookings you’ll ever see.

The Joelinton "challenge" was about 10yds off the ball, just grabbed by the shirt collar and ragged to the floor.

That's fair, i don't recall what the assistants were doing. Again the fourth official doesn't really intervene...

Really it's just the ref and the assistant on that end. So two, not uncommon for two of them to miss something altogether.

Var did look at it IIRC and deemed it not a red.

It’s mental, if I went and did that to someone in the street I’d be charged with assault/ABH. I know football is a contact sport but this was an off the ball incident where Elliot was thrown to the ground with force.

One of the other 3 officials should have intervened and failing that, VAR should have intervened and sent the Ref to the monitor to make the decision.

Is there not a forum where clubs can discuss refereeing matters behind closed doors? Surely this would be the time to bring up questions like this - play the clip - answers please..

Wrong thread to be asking this?...should there be a thread where we can discuss those *******s in black?[emoji1]
Anyway, to answer your question, I would have thought so. I think the LMA would have their own... ooh to have a peek at those!!!

In Harvey Elliott's last 43 appearances for Liverpool, he's only started 16 of them, but has 7 goals & 12 assists - averaging a goal involvement every 97 minutes.

It’s a strange one as he looks like he’d fit in that advanced midfield role. Maybe it’s the physical side and he can’t press and chase like Slot wants. I wonder what happens with him next season. I hope he has a place and can get more time because he has that something the midfield lacks.

I think we’d need a change in system to see the best from him - he’s not displacing any of the regular outfield players in our current set up.

I think that he's one of those utility type players that's handy in a number of positions, but not the best in any of them so rarely gets to start games.

It would be a shame if he was to leave, but is he really going to be missed?

At the moment he is a good squad option and is still young (21) so will improve.

He won’t get any quicker unfortunately so my hope for him is that he becomes a Mata-ish 10. If he can make up for his lack of pace with his passing, shooting and decision-making then he can have a great future with us.

Think with enough game time, there may well be that kind of player in him. A Mata or David Silva style of player.

Have no idea if he could reach the level of either in their prime, but he certainly looks to have it in him to bring similar qualities as those two.

Do think his decision making is already pretty good and what sometimes lets him down is the lack of movement through the central channels of our final third.

Against Newcastle he moved in a lot and you could see him looking for a run to play the ball of front of again and again, but then having to check back and pass sideways when there was no movement.

Chiesa then started making runs and Elliot went looking for him and we all saw what happened there. A clever top class player making smart runs and a switched on creative player reading the play.

I reckon Elliot is unlucky in a few ways but not least in that at present he could be upgraded upon without a massive outlay being needed. No fault of his own on that score as he is a young player still developing and probably a couple years off really hitting his stride.

Still would not look to sell him though unless a really silly offer came in. He is too useful as a utility sub at present and has a damn fine g/a return for the little time he gets on the pitch.

I wonder whether his best position is the advanced midfielder against a low block defence...he has plenty of cheeky passes in him, and that's probably what's needed against such teams.

                                As a 10, in a 4 2 3 1 would be his best position,
