From the Beeb. Southgate, ever the diplomat.
England forward Raheem Sterling will not play in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday "as a result of a disturbance in a private team area", the Football Association has announced.
The 24-year-old Manchester City player was involved in an on-field argument with Liverpool and England defender Joe Gomez, 22, during the Reds' 3-1 Premier League victory at Anfield.
"Unfortunately the emotions of yesterday's game were still raw," said England boss Gareth Southgate.
"One of the great challenges and strengths for us is that we've been able to separate club rivalries from the national team.
"We have taken the decision to not consider Raheem for the match against Montenegro on Thursday. My feeling is that the right thing for the team is the action we have taken.
"Now that the decision has been made with the agreement of the entire squad, it's important that we support the players and focus on Thursday night."Oh I don't know.

its pretty amazing they haven't said he has got a knock and kept it in house or send them both home. FA have been on a mad campaign to improve his image in the media which was absolutely in the wrong, they've given them something to use against him again.
Plus the fact he is probably the best player, cant imagine it was taken lightly.

I can't imagine it's the first time club rivalries have overspilled into an England camp.
Still, hilarious.Oh I don't know.

apparently Southgate has done really well in breaking up the club cliques but after the CL final it was a bit iffy with our lads and the spurs ones understandably. Now this, the squad is also taking shape more from 5 clubs where he seemed to be spread it around a bit more previously which probably helped.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIt's unprecedented isn't it.

All the young lads seem pretty grounded and decent compared to the old club cliques of Neville, Scholes, Lampard, Carra, Gerrard, Terry, Cole, Ferdinand etc

Surely there was more to it than this
Manchester City star Sterling is understood to have tried to provoke a reaction from Gomez and witnesses said they heard him ask the Liverpool defender whether he was “still the big man.”
Gomez kept his cool and resisted getting involved but was left fuming by the row and was shocked that Sterling would react in such a way.
It is understood that Sterling later apologised to his England team mate but it was not enough for Southgate who decided to take the extraordinary action.

A bit more to it.
[ame]https://twitter.com/MailSport/status/1194033532349419525[/ame]Sterling was sat down in the canteen when Gomez arrived and leant over from behind to shake his hand, leading to him to attempt to grab his team-mate by the neck. The rest of the England players initially thought Sterling was joking, but it soon became clear that he had lost control and the pair were separated.

Origi all over again.
Sterling is a good player and I really admire the way he has spoken about, and taken a stance against, racism. But he’s also a disruptive cock and I’m so glad that he no longer represents our club.
