Liverpool vs Leeds Utd - Premier League (20/21 - Game 1)
We were not at our best definitely but it was far from being shocking. A couple of goals we conceded were sloppy but did you expect us to walk over Leeds first game of the season? I didn’t.
We won without playing well again. This type of efficiency wins leagues and I’m not concerned yet.
I expected it to be difficult, Leeds are a decent side full of confidence and this was their biggest game in 16(?) years. But aside from Mo I don't think anyone was more than a 5 out of 10 performance. We were fortunate that Leeds were as bad if not worse than us defensively gifting us 2 pens and VVD a free header.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: "What a game, what an opponent, what a performance from both teams. A proper spectacle, I loved that.
"It is pretty rare you see that many goals in a game, we have left space for improvement in our defending but that is not unusual for a first game. Our players have played a few days ago for their countries so it is possible.
"The opponent forced us to make mistakes, we can do better, we will do better but I loved a lot about the game against a well-organised, passionate side like Leeds. We used our skills to cause them problems, we could have scored more and in the end we used set-pieces which is fine by me.
"It is not like riding a bike, you can lose something in pre-season and it takes time to all come together again. I am really positive about this game. Leeds will have a good season if they can keep up that intensity and they did it in the Championship with more games so why not?"
Doesn't pass for me, our defending has been similarly casual since the restart. I'm concerned that it hasn't been rectified. If it was a usual first game of the season you'd say OK, rusty. But its been 10 or 12 games now.

It’s not been 10 or 12 games. It’s been maybe 4 games out of 10 or 12. Including the last 2 home games we’ve shipped 6 and scored 9.

I’d say we are a few tweaks from being ok.
Lets hope so.

We’ve been a bit **** on and off since March. Does anybody expect us to keep a clean sheet? It’s like 2013-14 - we’ll need to outscore the opposition. Strap yourselves in - it’s gonna be a exciting ride!
