I think he will play left midfield and diaz will be the main left winger.
Diaz will lead the first press and then gakpo will clean up the loose ball sloppy seconds.
His beef will help shore up the midfield, cover the open spaces, late arrival around the goal area, shots from outside the box, all exactly what we have been missing.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

        That would be great.

I'm still not convinced that we will get Bellingham, I reckon we will get Caicedo and another.

I can't find a single article, quote, illustration or anything that suggests he played midfield in the world Cup.

Can anybody point me towards some heat maps, avarage position charts or even articles? I wasn't arsed with the world Cup, so didn't watch much, but everything I've looked at retrospectively suggests he played in a variety of attacking positions, but never in midfield.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He didn't. He did play a bit of a false nine position for Netherlands in the World Cup, but not in midfield. He has played the vast majority of his games LWF. The heat maps clearly show that. Even Klopp today indicated his best position is LWF.

I think we're just speculating. That's what this place is for (uninformed nonsense) . I have a sneaky position based on nothing at all that he could end up in the midfield 3 at times. A bit like we did with Wijnaldum.

I did think about the Gini transition myself and I think it was Corndog on here who specifically said about Gakpo playing in a midfield three, which is why I went searching.

Based on Klopp's comments I think he'll play up top.

Yeah that midfield 3 claim had me checking too.

In the World Cup, Gakpo was used as a no.10 behind the front 2, or as one of the front 2. But not in a midfield 3.

He played AM, ahead of 2 behind him (this is a type of midfield trio) which was de Jong and one other depending on the game but usually two holding mids.

I could see him at times being used in the no. 10 if Klopp goes 4-2-3-1 or in a 4-3-3 as the advanced member of the midfield 3 with two in behind. However he could also be used on either flank or as CF / false 9. He most often plays as a LW so far though.

In the games, you’d see him come right back deep into midfield to get the ball at times.

I don't think we've signed him for his currently - in some quarters - limited game play. Klopp alluded to a process of player improvement when talking about him and I think we've seen he has a higher limit to where he is currently. For me, the most exciting part of this transfer is that we are signing with a view to improving the player. I've talked about this a few times over the distant years, but in Liverpool of old we used to sign promising players and make them worse ; now we sign promising players and make them better and that is so important. I'm not that concerned about Gakpo's limitations because he is obviously talented with a high ceiling. All things being equal, we will make him the player he should be. Like others have said - bargain.
                        Really?

I'm not denying he doesn't look dangerous in front of goal & is a talent. I haven't seen much of him in his preferred position for his club so I cannot comment on that but for Holland in the World Cup I thought his general play was disappointing, as was the whole Dutch side.

In fact, I thought Holland were slightly lucky to get through the group, out played by Senegal & Ecuador but it was goals against the run of play by Gakpo that bailed them out. Qatar even had chances. In the knockout games Gakpo did nothing & whole side was outplayed by the USA & outplayed by Argentina. I thought the Dutch were pedestrian & lethargic in general.

Just my opinion & certainly not an indictment on how is is as a player in general. I'm excited to see him at LFC
