If we have some bodies to play up front then I'd like to see him starting in midfield.

He might well be a good player but he doesn't really look like your typical explosive Klopp wide forward.
was saying during in the world cup about him. I didn't think he played well in general for the Dutch but did score some lovely goals out of nothing. I have come across a bit negative about him but it just seems like a slightly off kilter signing to me & one that I still really haven't come around to.
Disclaimer: Just incase I get the usual suspects are coming my way, I am not writing him off at all & I have no idea what his best position is either. So just to clarify, I am not writing him off.Last edited by danperkins; 18-01-23, 12:59 PM.

I'm in the same boat. Not sure where he fits into the team when everyone is fit. The money could have been better spent elsewhereOriginally posted by danperkins View Post

well that's the other argument about us and not having any more money. The midfield in is dire straits and you would think that should be priority number one. I don't know if injuries had anything to do with the signing but you would think that with Bobby back soon, Salah can play central, Nunez can play left and central and Elliot and Carvalho can cover both sides... we wouldn't be spending €40m quid plus big wages on a stop gap like Melo & that this was a planned signing and one we have put thought into.
I don't know much about him to be honest, other than he did well in the Dutch league (pedestrian) & scored a few nice goals in the world cup. I have no idea what is his best position, people are saying from the left but he doesn't seem to have a lot of pace for that, especially in the prem. I certainly won't judge him on a few mins in a dysfunctional team but his attributes are something that I didn't expect us to go for as an attacker. It was just a signing that caught me by surprise is what I'm trying to say & I'm not sure what to make of it.

I was wondering if he is going to play false 9 as a Firmino replacement as well. As he doesn't seem to have the pace for a wide forward in our system.Originally posted by BigChief View PostHe helped by not giving the ball away in dangerous positions, allowing breaks against us. Some great flicks that actually worked but teammates letting us down by not capitalising on them. Scarily slow though but if he has goals in him then he can be our Firmino replacement. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Id like to see him play as an AM in games where the team will likely dominate possession and field position with Diaz, Nunez and Salah in front him.Originally posted by baitman View PostIf we have some bodies to play up front then I'd like to see him starting in midfield.
I think he’s good in tight spaces with the ball and is a decent passer.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

Definitely technically good and a physical presence. Not sure about his passing (Not saying if it's good or bad, I just haven't got an opinion about it as yet) but it's tempo and work rate we need and lack desperately. I'm sure if that's his bag but he'll get ample time to prove himself and hopefully he does.Originally posted by Corndog View PostId like to see him play as an AM in games where the team will likely dominate possession and field position with Diaz, Nunez and Salah in front him.

I'm a +1 for where does he fit in
Looks like we will need to be patient with him, plus. He's basically joined at the worst possible time.
"Here's your team mates, they are all either knackered or injured. We are playing ****, so you wont get that customary 5 weeks to learn how we play. how we play is changing every week anyway as all the other teams read Peps book.
Oh yeah - FYI - the guy we got last Jan was instantly epic, so no pressure.
Plus - dont ever go online now those ****ers were miserable even when we were winning
....Welcome to Liverpool YNWA"Modifying post.

He worked really, really hard off the ball yesterday to be fair. I thought he led the press really well. He doesn't look lazy to me, it's just hard to see what he actually excels at?Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostNot particularly quick and not used to being a hard worker off the ball.
He may be a good player, but he's the opposite of a Klopp (Edwards) era LFC forward.
