Diaz is 5’11”. Wouldn’t say that’s particularly tall. He just looks taller coz he’s skinny as fk.

        Great read that. Cheers Mate.

Sounds like he definitely has the right mentality to succeed with us.

A very good read. You could sense the frustrations, tribulations and use of bad language of the coach who is clearly driven by his methodologies and ideas.

          He reminds me of me.

I thought he was bang average in the world cup but scored a few nice goals. His general play was meh. Heard alot about him but haven't seen much so won't judge. I still find it stra ge we have so many guys that excel from the left.

How many full length Dutch games did you actually watch?

I saw them against Senegal, USA and Argentina and he was the most threatening Dutch player on the pitch from an attacking perspective in 2 of those.

In their other two games (of which I only saw highlights) he scored and looked dangerous.

His general play was great throughout the tournament in a decent but unspectacular Dutch side that went out on penalties to the champions. He was actually better than I expected at picking the ball up deeper, turning and passing forwards. Some highlights of this below.

He can cover the left sided midfield role, big and strong (beefy) good with both feet.

I'm pretty sure I watched all the Dutch games & with the greatest respect ..we all know how highlight reels go & I did say his goals were fantastic. I'm not denying he doesn't look dangerous in front of goal & is a talent. I haven't seen much of him in his preferred position for his club so I cannot comment on that but for Holland in the World Cup I thought his general play was disappointing, as was the whole Dutch side.

In fact, I thought Holland were slightly lucky to get through the group, out played by Senegal & Ecuador but it was goals against the run of play by Gakpo that bailed them out. Qatar even had chances. In the knockout games Gakpo did nothing & whole side was outplayed by the USA & outplayed by Argentina. I thought the Dutch were pedestrian & lethargic in general.

Just my opinion & certainly not an indictment on how is is as a player in general. I'm excited to see him at LFC

Agree you can’t be going off highlights and also that the Dutch were fairly toothless in attack generally at the World Cup, which is why it really did seem like almost all Of their better attacking movement involved gakpo. With the exception of Weghorsts excellent cameo off the bench vs Argentina.

I thought he played well in a fairly conservative van gaal side but each to their own

This is a hatchet job. Very harsh. Stereotypes him as a one tricky pony unfairly. He is clearly a much better player than this assessment IMO. It is an ultra-negative take.

I disagree with him and I think he is a good dribbler and good in tight spaces. He is capable of muscling players off the ball with ease. I'd say he is quicker than he's suggesting too.

The Dutch league thing also is a nothing point for me too. If a player is good enough, they are good enough.

He is the top scorer AND top for assists in the Dutch League this season with 21 combined in 14 games! He is by far the best player in that mediocre league playing in a very average PSV side. Lets see how he does with much better players around him.

As I said I just posted an alternate view from a guy who normally calls things pretty accurately. I’ve seen some backlash because he is a “Ljinders signing”. We need more depth up top, his numbers are very impressive and another big guy is a plus to get on the end of Trent’s crosses

The last big things out of Holland didn’t go great - Malen, Bergwjin and let’s see on Antony. I hope Gakpo improves as he plays with better players

Malen and Bergwijn? I think Gakpo is a few levels above what they were achieving already. Gakpo has similar stats in 14 matches to Bergwijn's best ever Eridivisie season.

Antony actually fits the one tricky pony moniker much better. His stats for Ajax were never great anyway, his best ever return for a season is 9 goals and 8 assists. Again Gakpo has already smashed past that this season in only 14 games.

I do get the caution given it is the Dutch league, but as I said I think you have to take every player on his merits. Gakpo is in the middle of a real breakout season. We are catching him on the up. He is by no means a guaranteed success but I feel pretty confident he will be a good signing.

As for the Lijnders signing thing, not sure where that has come from? Because he's Dutch he must be a Lijnders signing? Sounds like Liverpool twitter.

Just on the price again. I think he is an absolute bargain!
