"Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo is set to be sidelined until after the international break.

The Netherlands international had to be substituted prior to the second half of Saturday’s contentious 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur due to discomfort in his knee and left the stadium wearing a brace.

A scan has since alleviated fears that he’s facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but Gakpo is expected to miss Thursday’s Europa League clash with Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield and Sunday’s Premier League trip to Brighton.

If his recovery goes to plan, there’s hope that he will be available after the international break with Liverpool entertaining Everton on October 21.

Jurgen Klopp described the injury to Gakpo as his “biggest problem” on a day when his team saw Luis Diaz’s goal wrongly disallowed for offside, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were sent off, and they conceded a late winner through Joel Matip’s own goal.

Gakpo, who has scored three goals so far this season, was hurt by a challenge from Destiny Udogie prior to firing home Liverpool’s equaliser just before the break."

        It was an incredible finish.

He effectively injured himself because of the force and dynamism of the pirouette before the goal.

Sweet. Good to have him back.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Did well when he came on yesterday, building on an excellent performance midweek.

Perfect time for him to step up with Jota injured and a few below par performances from our other forwards. Should be nailed on to start tomorrow, which position is the question though?

We play wednesday. Should play in the middle and Nunez left. Should link play a bit better.

Seems alot of talk about Nunez, Salah and Diaz but we don't really talk about Gakpo. I'm not really sold on him yet, no doubt has talented but inconsistent and on the fringes in alot of games. Sometimes he is anonymous and then scores out of nowhere, he was doing it in the world cup. To succeed at LFC though, he has to be more involved in the games and we are still waiting for him to lay down a marker. We don't really know what type of player is, what I would say is that he certainly isn't going to be able to link the play like Firmino did. Nunez and Diaz are frustrating on times but they are always involved in the games, whereas as Cody is on the periphery alot of the time. Decent squad player I suppose but can't see him being happy with that. I'm just not sure what to make of him.

Thought he was very quiet last night. The player playing in the central position needs to be a real distraction so that the wider players get a bit of space, so he needs to do more.

He's been out of the side recently so can't really judge on first game back.

I think he's excellent and played regularly will shine for us.

I would never judge a player merely on "1" game. I think he is talented for sure but I would disagree that he has been excellent for us as a whole, he has been ok/decent imo. I'm just not sure what his role is in the side or what his style is for that matter. For me regardless of how frustrating Nunez is, I think we look a much more dangerous side with Nunez in that central role vs Gakpo. That's not to say that Gakpo cannot be a valuable squad player and score some important goals for us. Whether or not he will be happy to play in a squad role remains to be seen.
