His minutes to goals ratio was virtually identical to Nunez last I checked. Been a bit poor last couple of games though.

His goals to games/minutes numbers are similar to that of Darwin, but he is miles behind when it comes to assists.
With Nunez if he does not score then chances are he causes a goal.
Not that I want to seem like I am saying that to knock Gakpo though. I rate Gakpo and think there is a smashing player there in him. Said it before but would love to see him tried in that wide playmaker type role that he often plays in for the Dutch team.
Think Gakpo is a bit unlucky at times in that Nunez has the energy and physicality to be the one chasing around and running hard at defences whereas Gakpo, imo of course, is the guy that takes advantage (when in that playmaker role at least) of runners from midfield and the full back positions (again or so it seems when I have seen him play for the Dutch national team).
So when our team is disjointed due to injuries etc, Gakpo will either not get a look in or not be used in a playmaker role as there may not be the type of runners coming from deep around him, whereas Nunez can drop into any line up of ours and into any position across the front line and give the same level of hard work, running and dragging defenders with him.
Though if I could only have one in the team I would go with Darwin every time because of that track record of being as likely to create a goal as he is of scoring one.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

He should have scored a couple yesterday...but I was delighted for his goal against Luton. I think he DOES suffer from being played in different positions and in different ways all the time...which I think is a sign of how flexible JK thinks he is, and you could argue the team's results are an indication that the team as a whole benefits.

Like I said his numbers look good, he has got a few goals but his overall game it feels like it just isn't happening, a couple of the games he has scored in recently you have almost forgotten that he has been on the pitch. I felt that he was going to be a player who was involved alot in build up and contributing to our attacking play, but that just doesn't seem to be the case at this season. Earlier in the season when Nunez wasn't scoring it felt like him and Gakpo were the opposite of one another, Nunez was everywhere and just couldn't buy a goal, whereas Gakpo was nowhere, just popped up, got a goal and did nothing else.
I seems harsh to be complaining about his performances when his numbers are looking good, I have just found him to be very frustrating in particular the last few weeks. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

he’s the player I’m most disappointed with this season. I had really high hopes for him before the season started- he looked so sharp last year, I was thinking that after having a pre season with us, if he was able to move up a level, he’d be one of the best players in the league…
In a team full of youngsters you’d expect him to stand out, but as ya say, at times I forgot he was even on the pitch.I don't tip

I thyink he only did that run through the middle after Dann had scored twice. I guess he felt like he was being shown up finally. My frustration with him is how he closes down defenders and keeprs. You'll see him run at them but when hes close he backs off a little instead of what nunez and dann do which is keep going top speed. He gives them too much time.

This really should have been Gakpos opportunity to stake his claim as a starter.
I thought the same. Must be a bit embarrassing to be so comprehensively outshone

That is what has disappointed me too, it feels like he is too much of a passive player rather than someone who makes things happen. You compare him to the likes of Nunez and Jota, when they aren't in the starting 11 and they come on as sub they tend to make things happen (same with Salah on the rare occasions he is on the bench). I don't get that same impression from Gakpo, he might get a goal but it doesn't feel like he changes the game. At the start of the season I was looking forward to him showing what he could do and I thought he would stake a strong case from a starting place but that hasn't really happened.
These last few weeks with Jota, Nunez and Salah out should have been a big opportunity for him to show what he can do and demonstrate that the others don't come straight back into the team when they are fit, but he hasn't done that at all. At a time where him and Diaz were the only fit forwards I feel he should have stood up and said I'm going to be the one who gets the goals for this sideThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The guy has ability but he is just too passive and doesn't have the intensity needed, especially in a Klopp side. I never really understood the signing to be honest, just doesn't seem like a Klopp player. He does score a few goals but ****ing hell does he drift out of games for long periods. He got some stick from the United game which was fair enough but lot of other lads didn't play well either so can't be knee jerk about that. I still don't know what he is or where is his best position. He scores a few goals here and there which is good but there has been very few games where he has dominated or made a statement imo.
I can't see him being here next season unless he is happy to be a squad player which is what he is at the moment. There are simply better and more effective players ahead of him.

Might sound a bit daft but you can kind of tell he’s not got it just by looking at him. Technically fine and all that, but there no signs of aggression, no grimaces of determination, signs of genuine passion, the dead pan celebrations, it’s all quite calm and robotic. He’s certainly not the kind of player that fans naturally warm to, which doesn’t really help, and I think the PL needs the opposite of all that tbh, maybe he’s just in the wrong league.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

He showed he had that in him last season. There are plenty of examples of him being very positive and aggressive in attack.
It’s so strange that’s it all gone away this season. You would think after that good half season and a proper preseason with a new look team that’s going so well he’d be thriving.
He’s still got very good stats for pressing high up the pitch and winning the ball back though.

I’m not his biggest fan for what a lot of you have said but let me play devil’s advocate ….. he played as a left winger for PSV where he’d cut in on his right and shoot. I’d say we’ve never played him there and when Salah was out we played him on the right inside of moving Dias over and allowing Gakpo play in the role where he was successful. We’ve also played him in midfield and again he might have the size but he certainly doesn’t have the mental attributes to play there. All of that must effect his confidence
Essentially he’s our 5th choice attacker and he’s got 13 goals this season so from a pure numbers perspective it’s not bad….
