Yeah, I was thinking & hoping of a 2nd coming of Gerrard but that's a tall ask!

When he played in Germany there were some similarities to how he played and how Gerrard played and especially when Szobo was played in a RM or RAM role.

This season though he is very much being used in a Henderson-esque role where his work rate and willingness to do the water carrier role is seeing him more or less be a shield for the right flank.

Hell of a lot of attacks down our right side are either sniffed out by Szobo or put under enough pressure by his chasing back that the other them often has to reset their attacking move.

Have a feeling that MacAllister is putting up similar underlying defensive numbers too, maybe even better than Szobo.

To be fair, if the shot is on target and the player has an arm outstretched, however intentional it was, then I think a penalty is justified even if the distance between shot and arm contact is minimal. It has denied a possible goal scoring chance.

You won't get much joy with Dom and Grav in your face and making those covering runs.

Can see why he gets picked over Jones in some games. But Jones absolutely has his place in other scenarios. Hopefully with the need for different approaches they both get the gametime they want. I expect so as they can both rotate with Mac as well if needed.

Was interesting to see him and Grav rotating at times, when Grav got forward, Dom dropped back. The same thing happened with the full backs, whenever they we out of position, there was always another player looking to drop in to cover. This has got to be the biggest reason we seem so much more stable in defence, we just aren’t seeing those gaping holes that were our Achilles heel previously.
