I like that analogy!! I was discussing summat like that last month with friends in the pub & we were saying that some of the players Rafa had, would be perfect in this squad for Slot... not any of them mentioned Gerrard either.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Slot wouldn't mind a Gerrard in there but we felt that the likes of Hamann, Alonso and Mascherano along with John Arne Riise would complement Slot's tactics whereas Gerrard would be constrainted by those tactics as he was a marauder in that midfield.
I'm sure Slot & Klopp would have adjusted their tactics to accommodate a player like Gerrard but would have it been to the detriment of the team?
Is that what happened to Rodgers team?
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

Gerrard was best on the right wing and behind Torres, imho. I think you could have slotted him in at false 9, in place of Gakpo... or even Salah (systemwise)

Rodgers made the mistake of putting him at DM, to which he was ill suited, imho

It’s typical Dutch total football. The best way to play the game imo.

Rodgers only put him deeper because his pace was gone. It was a good move that definitely contributed to the team that went so close to the title.

Yes, it meant that if he were ever to slip. he could be last man.

There shouldn’t really ever be a situation where your aging CDM is last man though. We didn’t even need to win that game, just not lose.

                    That wasn’t the intention though.

That season, Gerrard would split the CBs and normally have them closer to him on either side. It didn’t happen on that occasion and bad luck meant the mistake was punished with a goal conceded.

Same way Klopp used to have Kehl do it very successfully for Dortmund

                      It definitely wasn’t intentional

It was just an example of Rodger’s tactical naivety - a game we didnt need to win but Rodger’s went looking for a statement result and it played straight into Mourinho’s hands.

Good job you didn't say that after the game, I said the same (specifically the word naive) and didn't go down well on here

But it's spot on. Mourinho wasn't looking for a goal, he was content to play out a bore draw. We could've taken a point, not been so gung-ho against Palace and won the league. Rodgers planning was poor

What was so impressive about our win on Sunday was how adaptable Slot has made this team - we switched from playing super aggressively, on the front foot and completely dominating Man City to a much more reserved way without relinquishing control of the game.

Quite often with Klopp we were guilty of not playing more conservatively when we were a goal or two up - you never felt confident that we wouldn’t concede (apart from the precovid part of the 19/20 season)

I think Klopp was the General, front line, and able to inspire his troops up to his level. Slot seems to be the master tactician in the background, orchestrating

Starting to find his feet in the system a bit more at the moment. We know he runs all day but feels like there is more end product coming and he’s definitely growing. With Elliot back will we seem him play a bit deeper at times.
