There has to be something in it for everyone, if he reaches the level when we want to buy him back presumably he would be coming back as a first team starter, so an elite CB still under contract, you would be lucky to get such a player for £60m plus add ons now, add a couple of years of football inflation I don't think that's a bad deal. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

How do these buy-back clauses work? Does the player accept that he'd come back if the fee is met, when signing the initial contract, or is this really a "first refusal clause" whereby if the fee is met, a negotiation with the player would ensue to determine if he actually want's to be "bought back"?

Yeah, that's my reading too, otherwise the player would be agreeing to comeback some time in the future on a pre-determined salary, if the club snapped its fingers. Seems far-fetched to me - who would lock themselves into that situation?
The idea that if Quan comes on in leaps and bounds we would then snap up a world class defender for (relatively) cheap is a super simplistic reading of the situation. I would have thought a sell-on clause would have been the better bet.

I imagine the player has to agree to it before its put in place anyway.
I mean Quansah and Elliot probably don;t really want to leave so a buy back suits them as well.
Go off do mint elsewhere and you can come back. Do ****e and you might end up at Everton._____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

I expect it works in the same way as a release clause. If a club meets the valuation the player is free to talk to them, except in this case the release clause only applies to one club. The player could refuse in either case.Originally posted by red g View PostI imagine the player has to agree to it before its put in place anyway.

Yeah, not the best season last year.
Was a very good one previously.
Needs games. Shame he wont get them here. I reckon he will be a top centre back in a couple.of years.
I wonder how often buy-backs are utilised?

Think Spanish clubs use them a bit.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Madrid have used them a few times Carvajal, Morata, Casemiro, Chelsea used one to bring back Tammy Abraham, PSG to bring back SimonsOriginally posted by Charly View PostYeah, not the best season last year.

Buy-backs - they are essentially options on a player's development and I'm glad we're using them. It demonstrates that we believe in the player enough to want to protect our input to their value. It also means that we are essentially using the buying club as a tool to develop 'our' players and no doubt it helps in negotiation to quote a fee plus or minus buyback making the fee inclusive of buyback look more attractive even if it isn't, thus ultimately increasing net income. Personally, I think it's a no brainer for players at Quansah's level.Really?

Can anyone recall us ever having used it before though to bring someone back?
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Not me, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good idea. A bit like a sell on fee but a future discount rather than a future premium. Ideal would be negotiating a buyback fee and a sell on feeOriginally posted by SB View Post
