They average 2.27 goals a game in the league. It should be higher considering the chances created. Work at both ends but hopefully not that far off picking up those few extra points.

It’s not like the team concede a lot of goals but if it’s the first goal almost 50% of the time they give themselves so much more work to do and put the defence under so much more pressure.

I’m not saying they are great defensively at the moment but seems more the timing of the goals they concede rather than the numbers. Why do they start games so slowly and with a lack of real intensity. We don’t have to come out and blow teams away in the first 30 minutes like we used to under Klopp, although that would be nice. Let’s see how Slot gets things going.

It wouldn’t take a huge overhaul to get those improvements. A few underperforming players out and some top key players into the starting team isn’t too much to ask. With the new team in place let’s hope the recruitment kicks back into the old days and we sign a few surprises that take this team to that next level.

With the manager leaving I think we need to just think of the squad as individuals, players that may or may not excel in an as yet to be understood formation and style of play, rather than whether the front or back line are working. I think there will be some significant movement in the market this summer but the squad quality is high. An attacker (or two if Mo leaves) and a defender or two (whether Trent leaves or not) and we should be a good position player wise.
