I'm guessing, he's been a bit snipey at two PCs now, even one where he had just had a 6-0 win.
He's clearly asked for new players and been told we're focusing on the summer.
He absolutely has a point, its a scandal we haven't looked at shoring up the defence. I know there's some credence on long-term thinking but when we're as short as we are we simply need to address it. No one will convince me otherwise.

Hindsight for them perhaps. If you go back the Isak thread I don't think there was a single poster that really thought it was a good idea, other than the fact we needed a forward.Originally posted by ronanm View PostThat 120m on isak should have been spent on 4 squad players. Hindsight etc..
That said, signing Isak isn't the reason we've not signed a defender in this window. We've plenty of headroom for that, i'm guessing its all in the account marked "new manager kitty" though.

I think We will see the value of Isak in the future as he is a great striker
We shouldn't link defensive issues with the signing of Isak. He and Ekiteke were necessary with the departure of Diaz , Jota and Nunez.
We have been unlucky with injuries in defenceJacques Brel is alive and well and playing at Anfield

A £130m injury prone striker was definitely not necessary and that money could (and should) have been better spent. I don’t think this is even up for debate.Originally posted by 5europeancups View PostI think We will see the value of Isak in the future as he is a great striker

Both things can be true.Originally posted by rudedog View PostA £130m injury prone striker was definitely not necessary and that money could (and should) have been better spent. I don’t think this is even up for debate.
Was Isak necessary, no, but a forward was.
Are we playing a Midfielder at the back because we signed Isak, no. We had Guehi in a MRI ready to sign for £35m. Signing Isak isn't why we're light in defensive numbers. We have money to spend, a lot more than £35m as well.

Not sure about the new manager kitty tbh......any potential new manager would mainly be expected to play ball with the squad.
So if we signed a new player now, then Alonso (or whoever) will be expected to work with them. If they don't fancy that, then I think they'd go to a manager that would.
Also, consider the likes of Nallo and Lucky. They are prospects for the future but also their development path is based on being the 6th, 7th or 8th choice defender.... so unlikely that they will play but they train with the first team and are part of the squad. They are there if needed throughout the season. When we do need them, then its important that they get chances imo....because if they don't then we will not attract the next batch of young players. That is why I have a problem with everyone playing right back ahead of Ramsay.
I suspect the truth is that the level of player required just isn't available in January. Guehi wage at city was just crazy. Lfc will know what defenders they are targeting already this summer and if he was available now then they'd go for it imo.

Really at the time the Ekitike transfer was the strange one when we were seemingly all in for Isak. Ekitike money could have been Semenyo.Originally posted by labourRed View PostBoth things can be true.

To then buy Isak as well now does seem crazy but it looks madder still given ekitike looks the better player.

There must be a loan available somewhere.
Philiips and Williams were more effective than Henderson and Fabinho at centreback.
We are simply overstressing the squad and Slot already doesnt like playing certain players. I feel like injuries are going to increase at a time after we purged a generstion if youngsters that could have stepped up,leaving another set Slot trusts even less.
Whole thing feels like a complete ****show.
The senior squad was small last year. We were very lucky with injuries. So we push our luck further by cutting things to the bone, and leaving ourselves with a single reliable centreback in their mid 30s.In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
