Grav needs to be a DEFENSIVE midfielder even if that makes it difficult to progress the ball, and for a while we need to lock a second player alongside him...the aim should be to reduce/stop the mumber of goals we conceded...then we won't have to be quite so gungho as we chase a deficit.
Agree grav needs to be a more controlled dm, but as our defensive line is often our side of the centre circle or further forward, with the midfielders even further up the pitch!
Then any midfielders AND our defence is too easily bypassed with a long ball or a couple of passes to runners.
This means virge and konate are in sprint running back towards goal and its 50/50 at best, more often than not we are going to concede.
We need to be more pragmatic and play to the strengths of our players, and most certainly not further expose any of their weaknesses.
But no doubt an experienced manager knows all this...

removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Despite how it looked in the summer our squad is paper thin in terms of people that the manager considers starting options. Ok we have a few out through injury (Alisson, Bradley, Frimpong Wirtz) but the bench yesterday only had Isak and Robertson who the manager would consider potential starters, Endo and Chiesa he doesn't trust to start games, Gomez I don't think he trusts due to his injury record, Rio and Nyoni who are kids that you really don't want to bring into the current **** show and a 3rd and 4th choice GK. Not really sure where he goes to change things.

Gomez has to come in for Konate, but that's about all he could do.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Slot is denying Rio & Trey playing time with the 21’s by just sitting them on the bench week after week. Both could have got valuable experience playing for the 19’s on Wednesday night but no chance of that happening.

And I'm not sure that the lessons they're learning from being around the first teamers are lessons we want then to learn from at the moment.

If I remember correctly his use of young players was a criticism from Feyenoord fans.

Tyler Morton deserved a chance last season and is that passer from deep the team could do with. He may not have been good enough but at least give him some opportunities.

Quansah started ahead of Konate but was subbed off at halftime and never got another genuine chance. Lots of young players struggle in their second season after making a big breakthrough.

Ben Doak is another that would be handy right now. He may not end up being a world beater but definitely has the potential to be a squad player. I think we’ve missed out on having players like those as good squad options. Those players don’t need to be great but can come in a do a decent job playing alongside the better players for short periods.

We’ve gone from a manager who trusted the young players and would give them opportunities to one who doesn’t seem interested in using them and the way he used them in the game against Palace in the LC isn’t the best approach.

It’s easy to sit here with things going wrong but he’s showing some of his weaknesses. Maybe man management isn’t his strong suit and I don’t think you’re going to be successful for long periods without that ability.

He has been given licence to get forward.

This isnt the dutch league. Top teams need a specialist DM with no ego to protect he back line.

We have enough players in the rest of the team to provide support to the attackers. IF we require Grav to get up the pitch to win games, its an utter failure tactically.

This is literally Liverpool over the last 30 years. Our best sides had Hamman, Mascherano and Fabino sitting there. In between we looked ****ing awful. This isnt rocket science. Yet Im a complete ****ing idiot and can confidently ay this would transform our season by telling Grav to sit his ****ing arse in front of the back 4.

We somewhat did that against Villa and Madrid and looked so much more solid (and Grav looked back to his best too) Then inexplicably, ol'pighead goes back to this cluster**** of a formation he's trying to make work and we get battered by 3 goals in every game.

The annoying thing is that we're not getting battered by 3 goals, we're throwing games away but giving our opponents a back door opening. If this is an ego thing, from the pouty cunt who acts like he has no ego, then it's pathetic

100%. I've been saying something similar for a while now. I think Grav returning to a more disciplined holding position solves a few problems for us but most significantly makes us harder to play through.

Grav might be a good baller but what we need is for him to be the great 6 he was last season again. What we give up, in terms of the odd goal/assist every now and then, will be more than made up for with our solidity returning. It's painful to watch those gaps being exploited week in week out when Grav is literally ace at plugging them and moving the ball forward.

As if that weren't enough, our cover/alternatives for him are also an issue. As I've said elsewhere, Endo is a cult hero but a liability with the ball for a player in that position. It isn't hindsight to say we needed to improve on that position in the summer and not doing so has proven to be another failure by the staff. People sometimes talk about Bajcetic being an option, one which would delight me if it worked out, but that is a major gamble to take on a fragile young player in a critical position for the team.

Far from having "won the transfer window", as some were saying in the summer, I think our recruitment team have done us significant harm with their oversight in these matters. This does not absolve Slot, as he has his fingerprints on our current ****ness more than anyone, but needs to be called out as well.

I would love Bajcetic to be able to establish himself as he looked quality when he got games a couple of years back, but the brutal truth is he needs to get fit and stay fit before he even gets considered an option. That's before you consider the **** show which is our side at the moment I wouldn't want to be bringing youngsters into the side as things stand at the moment (that includes Bajcetic, Rio, Nyoni etc)

On the wider point about a DM I agree it's not hindsight, most of us have been saying it for a couple of seasons (either before Gravenberch went into that role or last year saying we needed cover for him). Regarding Endo he might be limited in terms of what he can do on the ball but at the moment we need to go back to basics, be more solid in the hope of not conceding goals, battling and showing commitment and Endo will do all that. I'd really be tempted to bring him in in the short term for that.

If you are some of the squad players surely you have to be knocking on Slots door and saying if I'm not going to get a game now when other people are playing **** when am I getting games? Why am I here?

I think Slot is being stress tested by circumstances in a way that very few managers ever are. His obstinacy certainly isn't helping.
I'd love him to turn it around and come out of the other side knowing he'll never have it worse than it's been but if he can't get it done by christmas we should look at getting shut, getting in an interim and a new manager for next season. After the world cup there should be some top talents available.

A midfield four would be the best option for what we have available and it would give us the solid base we need.

Grav and Endo sitting when we are defending, but grav can go a bit when we are pushing up.

4-4-2 would also be my choice with 1 midfielder being given a free role.
