Not to mention he lost the dressing room in a big way at Real, one of his old clubs.

Funny how him losing the support of the players is painted as being the players fault when it comes to Real, but with us it is Slot's fault when the players give up and quit in games.

Would wonder if senior players set in their ways would be as big an obstacle for Alonso with us. They might not go to the club owners as they can at Real, but might give gutless performances instead.

As said many times, the rot goes beyond Slot.

If Slot goes in the summer, I would be very happy to see players that admit to giving up following Slot out the door.

The chatter about Alonso hedging his bets as being why he was not available to come in before the season ended continue too. The rumours being he wants to see if the City job becomes available in the summer rather than reduce his options by joining us early.

I think the reality of the situation is that this is going to be the case more or less every game, a positive result buys a bit of time, but even if we get a positive result against PSG, a poor result against Fulham puts the pressure on again, positive results in both we then have a 2nd leg against PSG, then there is the derby. There is no let up in fixtures we have some difficult games. We are currently on a run of having lost 4 of our last 7 in all comps and only won 1 of our last 3 in the PL (which should have been very winnable fixtures).

Going in on that run of form to some tricky fixtures - Everton, Man Utd and Villa all away, Chelsea on Brentford at home, all of whom are teams around us you don't much fancy our chances of making top 5 the way things are looking at the moment. Lose to Everton and I think things could go very toxic very quickly.

Yeah teams going easy on us as the games already won isn’t much of a morale booster.

Leadership (or the ability to lead) is a vastly underrated skill. Not everyone has it in them. You also need that leader to be playing consistently well also.

I’m not sure who we have. Macca would have been a shout but he has been poor this season. Trent was obviously earmarked by Klopp… Dom seems the obvious candidate.

And Salah and Robbo will likely be gone in the summer too. Will there be anyone left who takes this job as seriously as fans expect they should?

Who is there out there that could come in, senior pros with a professional work ethic who can set standards and lead by example? Feels like we need a talismanic figure in the summer.

Maybe alonso will want Granit Xhaka.

Many have suggested an interim but imagine Gerrard got it and we did well, there’d be a clamor to keep him and we know he isn’t good enough. It happened to United with OGS and you could say with us for Kenny’s second go where he wasn’t really up to it.

Maybe it is Alonso but he doesn’t fancy doing it now in a slump and he can’t turn it around mid season (many managers need a pre season to impose their ideas) and he’d be under pressure already. Maybe it’s someone else….who knows.

One thing that I’m not sure if it’s fully on Slot is the culture around the club seems to be not part of our dna. Ekiteke with the jersey swap mid game, Szozbo gesturing to the fans and a few other situations. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Hendo or Milner but you couldn’t doubt their standards (although Henderson showed his real side a few times)….. I digress, no way Milner allows a young player do that.

We need a big shake up and even above Slot needs to be looked at, good piece by the Anfield Wrap earlier

Saw something yesterday that were ranked 19th in the league for pressing from the front, and 20th in the league for pressing from midfield.

We’ve lost the identity we’ve spent 8 years building. That’s the killer for me - effort

I'd like to think most players, given a choice of Slot and a Champs League winners medal, or no Slot no medal, would be willing to work for the former even if they don't like him.

And if you were a dejected player would you be pulling up trees to try and prevent it.

People have been saying similar for the last 4 months, a decision should have been made but it wasn't and we've been waiting for the game, and the next game and the next game and here we are.
