But to be fair, he inherited a well oiled machine, no other Liverpool manager in recent history has inherited anything like it. When he proceeded to change things, everything went sideways.Originally posted by kingfunk View PostNo Liverpool manager has won more games than Arne Slot in their first 100…* The above is posted in my opinion. he gets some credit for getting the best out of Grav, making some tweaks and getting us over the line for the league which nobody thought would happen but also yeah he inherited a fantastic side. It's very clear when he had the chance to implement his own style, it just didn't fit with the players in the squad and we have been exposed so many times this season because of that and in fairness to Slot, a bit of bad luck. I would also argue that we have been relying on individual quality to get us out of trouble. What I mean by that is, the general level of performance from the team itself has been pretty dreadful for about a year now. I think maybe 3 or 4 games this season we've actually been good.
For me, Slot is not the man and imo he will be gone in the summer regardless of what happens but that doesn't mean that his time here shouldn't be seen as fairly successful, with the league win and if we qualify for Champs League this seasonLast edited by danperkins; 12-03-26, 09:47 AM.

He's playing a very similar formation, with a similar set of players. Ekitike > Nunez but losing Diaz is one of the biggest problems we've had
But for whatever reason, the way we play this season (and tbf, a lot of the second half of last season) feels odd
Has Salah genuinely lost the ability to play football or is it because he is told to be an RM instead of an RW?
Why is Gravenburch not playing like he did last year? As in, tactically?
Ignoring the horrific loss of Jota and the right back curse, it feels like a deliberate change to tactics has been made at some point last season or over the summer and despite it being clearly and obviously bobbins, we're stubbornly continuing with it
So regardless of whether or not he has the right profile, its that, that's gonna mean he's 100% not here next seasonI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Think the loss of Diaz is less an issue as Salah going form a world class G/A return to an ordinaryone, plus MacAllister going to muck and destroying the pivot/partnership he has with Gravenberch.
Gravenberch being forced a bit further forward most games as MacAllister is no longer doing what he did last season so Grav is moving up to plug gaps but geting caught out as he has the runners getting past MacAllister as well as his own to deal with.
Konate being poor for a lot of the first half of the season along with a revolving door at RB.
The list goes on.
Think any one of those issues disrupts a team, especially the disjointed midfield, but all of them together just takes the pace out of the team altogether and sees us playing with three separate units that do not play quickly to one another than one single unit like most of last season.
Think our inability to progress the ball quickly from the back to midfield and from midfield to the attackers is killing us. As obvious as it is to say that.
We have a team of ball carriers with a few exceptions but very few ball progressors at the back and in the middle.
Not helped either by a lot of players taking extra touches on the ball constantly and allowing themselves to be closed down more easily but with so many underperforming players the amount of outlets for a quick ball reduces.
Despite all that (plus all the injuries, the loss of Jota and so on), I do think the team is only a few tweaks away from being very effective ( regardless of who the coach or manager is next summer).
Get in some physicality and mobility in the middle in place of MacAllister (got to be good on the ball too of course). Bring in at least one starting quality wide attacker with pace and a CB of starting quality and I think we suddenly keep the ball better, get forward better and force the other team to worry about us more than they can concentrate on playing through us.
Of course bring in some back up players for some of those positions as well.
But the team is one that with a small number of starter level additions (plus back ups) should be looked at by an incoming coach/manager as one that could suddenly be back as a title contending threat.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

We definitely need some more physicality and mobility - but are we not lacking some sort of manager-generated intensity? Everything seems so ****ing leaden and slow and whatever the opposite of urgent is. Slot's version of urgent is replacing a defender with an attacker with 5 minutes to go. It's very hard not to just get totally subjectively sick of this and Slot and **** all the reasonable reasons for it.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

And what about some player generated intensity or urgency of play? That seems to be left out of most conversations.
Kelleher came out in his interview this season saying that from knowing the players at the club that his pov is that the season is simply not seen as being important by the players after what happened with Jota.
So we can pan Slot and blame everything on him, but we have someone that knows our players, that was a teammate of our players, and he is saying that he thinks the season is not being seen as important to those players.
So if Kelleher, who has first hand experience of knhowing the players, is saying the players do not care about the season how does Slot force said players to do things?
Below is some of that interview.
“I stay in touch with some of the guys there, I have a lot of good friends there.
“It’s a very difficult time for them, a difficult season, with circumstances that people probably aren’t taking into account too much.
“But it’s probably been a bit easier for me, being away from it, and not being in such close proximity to it every day.
“I find it a bit strange and a bit difficult when I hear people speaking about the players at Liverpool and the performances, because I don’t think this season is even important from a football aspect for them, to be honest.
“It’s more about them personally and mentally.
“Obviously, football is a massive sport and people have an opinion, which is natural. People expect you to move on quite quickly, and I don’t think that’s the case.”

There is a distinct lack of any sort of urgency from the get go & then when we go behind or need a result.. it's just pure panic and chaos.... that is Slot's fault imo. We have seen this carnage multiple times this season. From a squad perspective, there is a glaring lack of pace, dribbling ability and physicality in the team. Maybe that is on Hughes or Hughes and Slot, depending on how much input Slot has but it's very obvious.Last edited by danperkins; 12-03-26, 12:48 PM.

So all on Slot and the suits for the on pitch stuff and nothing on the players themselves?
That's bull imo. The actual effort on the pitch, basic stuff like controlling a ball properly, not needing two or three touches, passing to someone in the same shirt and so on, that's on the players.
It's a collective series of eff ups this season imo, some of those being self inflicted by Slot, and compounded further by Jota's death, injuries and supposed top class players losing form.
Is some of that on Slot? Of course it is and he will be the one that bears the weight of it come the summer imo, but a chunk of the on pitch faults lie with the players too.
Does not mean that change is not needed, but it is not all on Slot imo.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I agree with Jaco Doc pretty much 100%...... the impact of jotas passing is very hard to quantify and although there have been a lot of frustrations in a lot of moments, it should still be part of the season review at the end. Absolutely. With the "this is liverpool, this means more" approach at the forefront of the thinking.
One aspect as well possibly not thought about too much is how difficult it must have been for new players to integrate under such a cloud of sadness.

I have no doubt that that's all fair, accurate and true. But there's a man employed to make an attempt at regeneration of this group in the face of massive change and trauma and the one things that has disappeared is any sense of urgency. And in fact, this urgency seemed to start disappearing the longer Slot was in charge and the further away the team got from Klopp.
On the other hand, I suppose this is also what an attempt at this looks like - inconsistent and occasionally shambolic , the players have lost a percent or two that can't just be shouted back into them...Felching ≠ Gerbilling

We really do have a fan base with a certain amount of bed wetters and entitled dick heads amongst the social media types in the fan base.
It is all looking backwards and why don't we have this or that as if we should just have the best all the time.
We in the past have slagged off other fanbases but now I think we are as bad as the worst of them. We laughed as Arsenal fans losing their heads over stuff, that's what we do!
All about wanting glory now and totally unable to handle any sort of bad period.
Football at a big club is cyclical. Glorious highs or almost highs followed by slumps. Rinse and repeat. For the most part we do not have a clue what it must be like to support a team whose high is simply to exist and for whom losing is the norm.
Unlike the supporters of other clubs we are fairly sure that at some point we will be back winning silverware again. All we have to do in the mean time is put up with a bad season, maybe two. If people cannot do that without running to social media to lament that the past is not the present and cry about stuff, then I don't know how these people deal with the real hardships that life can dish out.
Being down is what makes the ups feel better. The fall is what makes the comeback feel glorious. Adversity is what makes the winning feel earned.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I dont think people are angry at us losing. I remember when Klopp won us the league and the next season we went straight to hell. Can't recall many saying get rid of him or raging at the team. I remember a lot of confusion. This is way different. We're not even enjoying how they play even when we win. If you sit there bored throughout the match, any annoyance that comes gets multiplied, where as if you see them trying and it doesnt go their way you just say the other team was better and move on. I still remember a few games back where we were either losing 1-0 or it was 0-0, last 10 or whatever of the game left, and slot was yelling and motioning at the players to slow down. It was one of the few times I saw them actively ignoring him and playing full pelt and we ended up winning. I could probably look back and find who it was but I'm lazy.
I dont want him. His team is dull and boring. Dull, boring and not winning.
