As I type Arsenal have only played two extra games in the Champions League

Their league form dropped off well before they 'decided to concentrate' on the Champions League. The run at the end of Feb start of March where they were beaten by West Ham and drew with Forrest and Man U is where they really messed up their 'title challenge'

That is true however since psg exit we have played 4 won 4.
They have played 5, won 3, drawn 2.

Reverse the 2 draw results and they are on 71 points, us 75.

Or just give us a couple of draws out of our 4 played and it's us 75, them 67.

We would still have a game in hand, however also still a cl semi to play perhaps. Ifs and buts but looking at our performances recently I'm not sure we could have won all 4 if also focusing on CL.

My takeaway, and a long held concern is trying to win PL and CL is incredibly difficult and extremely unlikely to net both and probably hinders winning either.

And even more likely to hinder winning the big prizes is to go for all 4 comps (a position we have been in around March time for a couple of recent seasons).

I don't think it's possible or right to sacrifice CL, but I do think when League is tighter and we are still in CL, come Feb we should never play the big players in Fa and league cup ties.

What a debut season.

This time last year we were faced with uncertainty and collective almost mourning of Jurgens imminent departure..... Just as it was becoming apparent that we were not going to win anything beyond that league cup last season. 12 months later and here we are. What Jurgen said was true, the club were left in a good place.

cutting the season in two means nothing though. We have clearly dropped off the last two months. Nobody will argue that, but we may have peaked the month or two before. Its a bit arbitrary without digging a lot deeper

How are shots on target and xg during those periods for example?

Salah has been pretty woeful since Newcastle in terms of performance, while carrying us for the previous 5 months.

That's the point though, I think the team metrics have remained consistent throughout, despite drop off in individuals.

I certainly don't remember us going to supersonic in January/February to offset a significant drop off since.

I was looking at some stats a couple of weeks back and it looked like we had dropped off in our shooting stats, in terms of accuracy (one statistic, I know,) specifically after Newcastle game, but his included both PSG games too. Southampton we had close to 30 shots with I think one on target (ignoring the two penalties). Thats when we noticably looked laboured going forward. Maybe also Trent gerting injured reduces the effectiveness of our balls to the attackers. Salah especially, but it feels like his service has dried up. He needs the ball in the right areas and hasnt been.

I think Elliott was the solution, but Slot was happy grinding it out. You cant argue with the points tally though.

I imagine it will be messy again tomorrow. It feels like the players are carrying the weight of expectation a bit. Looking forward to seeing them play after that as I think we will be a bit more relaxed.
