It was a scrappy affair but you couldn’t fault Ipswich for effort and they did a really good job of disrupting our rhythm with their pressing and constant fouling. Thought our effort was also pretty good, we just lacked quality/composure on the ball. It seemed we played too many long balls which were contested and came to nothing (Quansah was guilty of this a few times).

I also don’t think we were as good in the second half as was being made out. Saw a couple of people saying that’s as good a half as they’ve seen us play? I can only conclude that people have very short memories . Ipswich definitely ran out of steam which played a big part. Konate also used the ball better with some more incisive passes out of defence - Jota’s goal was a good example, started with a ball from Konate to Grav.
100 pct agree, the first half was not as bad as has been made out.

Seen a few fans also say Trent looked better because he was no longer inverted but he was taking up central midfield positions a lot so I think there’s an element of wanting to subscribe to an overly simplified narrative and journalists definitely push this with their reports.

The only big difference that stood out for me was how the press looked slightly different with szobo in the 10 being an extra man to it higher up and more central than he would have been in a 3 man klopp midfield.

It also looked like they were willing to be a bit more risky with playing out from the back at times but not sure that would be the conclusion of the data.

I love the passing through the lines and the forward, backwards, forwards patterns.

Kind of like a modern kick and rush!

Pass and move, it’s the Liverpool groove.

Yeah I think I saw it called "up, back and through" in a video. It looks so simple but it has proven to be lethal already. When done well it's like a pinball machine in action and must be a nightmare to defend against.

I do think Slot in particular has some very specific moves he wants the players to do that will take time to become muscle memory. When it works it's stunning but at times we looked lost trying to implement it, especially the passing out from the back, which looks bizarrely alien to us at times in the first half.

Defensively minded Atletico Madrid scored from a similar pattern yesterday too.

What I liked about the style was that I was not panicking about conceding in the first 15 minutes or the last 15 minutes of the game. This became all to common in the last few seasons.

              Let's hope that continues.

passing out from the back can be very effective, many teams do it but it is a matter of having the right players in defence and midfield that are comfortable enough on the ball aswell as providing the right movement to receive the ball.. to do it efficiently. It's a very risky tactic if you don't have the correct players to implement this properly especially vs high press teams, time will tell whether we have. I suspect we will see a few heart in mouth moments over the next few months.

If you were to watch the game through the prism of knowing the final result then I'm sure the passing from the back is a lot less stressful.

Perhaps it's a hangover from the early / silly goals we conceded last season but there were more than a few close calls when watching it live. My takeaway from the first half was that better team than Ipswich would punish some of the sloppy play.

Yeah I mean if I knew I wasn't going to die until I was a 100 then I wouldn't be scared of jumping out of a plane, but life just isn't like that unfortunately

We will just have to accept that for a while it will be risky and there will be mistakes, some of which we will be punished for.

Arsenal or City right now would press us into mistake after mistake probably, but thankfully it's a while until we play either of them.

On the flip side, when teams over-commit to pressing us, and we play through their press then this "up, down and through" thing will rip teams to shreds.

Other fans complain how naive and open teams are against us when we split them open. While simultaneously cheering when we're pressed in for a half and 'look ****'.

Can't have it both ways suckers, choose one eye and stick with it.
