Seems contact can occur outside the box and it can still be deemed a penalty if the defending player is touching the line when he makes contact with the ball or player. Falls under encroachment.
So if a defender is running away from his own goal, his back leg is on the 18 yard line and he catches an opposing player with his front foot say a yard outside the area that's a penalty? That's a ****ing stupid rule.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think he takes a touch to control it but the positioning and movement of the keeper is so random (he seemed to expect Salah to take the ball right) it takes the ball towards goal, any less of a touch probably asks for more of a finish. The keeper seemed to have totally lost his barings.

The timing of the run and through ball was sublime and again in a clutch moment it is Salah who shows up.
        Modifying post.

Beautiful pass from Gravenberch. Didn’t he get lumps kicked out of him. Twice he was down & I had my heart in my mouth hoping he’d be ok. He’s such an integral part of this team.

Keeper ****ed up, he thought Mo was going to miss the ball.

rEsT eVRybOdY for Madrid!!!! Play the kids! Give Macca and Diaz the last 15 minutes for a runout. Beating Southampton is huge. One of biggest moments of our season within context.

I am back to my original stance then.

Or try to beat Real and if we had 15 (or 13) points in the bag we could rest players for all three of the remaining CL group games.

Reminds me of Salah vs Bellerin who thought he had the ball but then in comes Salah to take it away!

Let's jeopardise Real Madrid with a win at home as they will be struggling to get to the CL play off stage.
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

Nothing I would love more. But we need just 1 win in our next 4 games (15 points will be enough IMO with the way City, Real, Arsenal and Bayern have fecked up).

Let's do that one win against Girona or LOSC. No need to go crazy now with City game round the corner.

And you are right to be. It wasn’t a pen, but they tried to find a way to keep one.

Robbo was clumsy and it’s a foul, but the fact Robbo’s left foot is just touching the line means the contact had to have been outside the box. I don’t know the precise law about contact vs the position of a foot of the defender making the challenge.

That's a really good point. A decent comparible is that a goalie can have his body outside the box with the ball in his hands as long as the ball is inside the box. If Robbo's foot was a metre outside the area but his arms were inside, it's not a penalty

Robertsons foot isnt even on the line. You can see green between foot and white line. It only got passed it when the defenders leg hits him and pushes forward. Commentary was saying they were told it was a penalty because they werent sure where the proper contact is made but it followed into the penalty box so penalty. Its just oliver sitting there for 2min trying to figure out how to spin it as a penalty.
