Maybe thick isn't the right term. Stupid is better. Plenty of intelligent people make really stupid decisions sometimes. I know I have, not that I'm particularly intelligent. Getting sent off in a league cup game for taking your shirt off then having to miss a league game because you're banned is pretty stupid. And before someone says he got carried away in the excitement this was Southampton, not Barcelona.

Yeah - perhaps I picked the wrong term. But there’s been a few examples of his stupidity this season. The shirt swap, the red card…

I dont see why the shirt was such a problem. They're besties and it was right at the end of the game. Zero difference doing it then or waiting 5min.

I agree, absolutely the least of the teams problems.

He’s not the most clinical but he can create something out of nothing, run behind and he links up well with others.

I think most footballers come across with a mixture of stupidity and immaturity. It’s not entirely their fault as they live in bubbles where they don’t have to be proper adults.

I’ve seen no evidence with Ekitike that he’s anything out of the ordinary in this regard.

He strikes me as flamboyant though and I can’t help but be reminded of similar comments unfairly made about Daniel Sturridge. I assume because he was into things like fashion or just because he’s black.

Ekitike has had a good first season.

New country, new club and dropped into a misfiring team that was on the back of a tragedy and still has managed a respectable G/A return with plenty in his performances to suggest we have brought in a quality player.

He’s suffered from having to play so many games as basically the only frontline CF all season with Isak being injured. But it’s been a great debut season for us. His potential is frightening. He’s got a bit about him personality wise, a swagger that is used in the right way will push him towards greatness.

At the same age, under the same circumstances, can anyone else imagine Shearer, Rush, Kane, Kenny, Mo, Sadio etc taking their shirt off either to get a second yellow or to give it to an opponent when four goals down? I'm not doubting Hugo's quality at all. He is incredibly gifted. His personality is also endearing, a bit different. Is he ruthless? Not yet but hopefully he has that streak in him waiting to come out.

And they were annoying but he never got himself sent off doing it.
