    That first penalty decision

Well VVD starts the "tackle" in the box and is moving out of the box, his foot lands right on the line, so that kind of tells you contact was on the line or just in.

      Soft though.

Its also interesting they can analyse that, but cant see that the prick with the long throws was over the line when he threw the ball constantly. Isn't that a foul throw? Cant they overturn goals for the ball being out etc...why not that?

I disagree, his heel might be but it's his toe that makes contact and that looks outside. A nice side on still shot would clear it up there there isn't one

I couldn't be arsed with social media last night, but this morning have been seeing stuff like this, never saw an official still image of the contact which with something as tight as this I think you really need to show. Because if this is the right frame it makes it questionable...

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Cheers ER, that's exactly what I was alluding to earlier. VVD's contact point is.the tip of his toe and if they're going to use such fine margins then they need to make sure they get it spot on. They haven't, they're morons and meanwhile we suffer again by ther ineptitude and on social media it's all about salty tears and crying.

Yeah, that logic doesn't work at all. Anyone can disprove it by simply kicking their foot out in front of them. Clearly, your foot will move forward and then come back to you.

I remember when Ronaldo would get penalties for UTD contact was outside the box but because he was traveling and landed in the box it was deemed a penalty. This guy falls out of the box should be same rule. Whats amusing is the ref didnt go to check the monitor like hes supposed to. Just accepted whatever was said.

The contact is either in or out at the moment of contact, once the foot is retracted it's not going to be making contact. That still shot shows the contact is outside the box doesn't it?

Yep, he was probably too frightened to argue with the bigger boys

It wasn't your logic I was questioning

Ref didn't go to the monitor as he had already deemed it a foul. So VAR didn't argue the toss over that side of it, they just informed him that the foul was (in his opinion) on the line and therefore not a free kick, but a penalty.

If the ref had called it a penalty from the start, would VAR have intervened and said "maybe you want to look at that again"? Having found out that VAR was Chris Kavanagh, I doubt it very much.

I had largely assumed if the on field ref gives a penalty then the only way that is overturned is if the VAR shows there is no contact, it could be converted to a freekick (reverse of what happened here) if VAR saw the contact was outside the box. But the degree of contact and whether it is a foul is the referees call - VAR only intervene if referee has given nothing because he has missed contact or referee has given a foul and there was no contact.

Definitely needs some sort of ruling. Getting the ball. A ****ing towel. Waiting for the ball to be dried. Waiting for guy to get his run up. 10 mins of the game just on that. Should be 10 seconds to take a throw otherwise it gets reversed.

There is no rule as to how long a throw in takes to take, but the towel thing needs both clubs to agree pre match to the potential use of them to dry the football for throw ins etc.

Interestingly the Championship banned the use of towels on the grounds they were being used for time wasting purposes ( Did not know about that until I did a Google search a few mins ago)
