I think if it allows our more creative players / goal scorers like Milner & Hendo the opportunity to get forward then I'm all for it. Can looks good bringing the ball out of defence but I've not seen him put the ball in the back of the net enough to displace the other pair. That's there games not Can's yet.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

You don't need a holding player against teams who defend deep. You need a player who can push a bit higher and still get back. If Lucas could do that then fine, but he can't.
He can, we just push him too far up and leave ourselves exposed. Lucas' passing is very good and helps start attacks.

I think keeping some cover on the defense is always worth while, we are commonly left with an exposed defence.

I hope the Lucas fanboys will hush up at the back now.

Lucas hasn't been great this season but neither has Can. In fact, our whole midfield has been incredibly poor. Henderson AND Allen would walk into our current set-up.
          Another MASSIVE game

            you have gone too far...

when he is back fit you can think back to this when he is turning out those little hard white lumps of old school dog****.

              He hadn't gone too far.

Tbh, a player always looks at his best when he's out injured and the team are losing. Allen went through a similar spell last season until he came in and was as rubbish as the rest.

But I'll be damned if I'm accepting that this is the best I'll see from us for the next year. Save me Joe.
              Forwards.......

Just heard he played last night even though his grandmother died prior to kick off? YNWA LUCAS

Ignoring the fact he didn't make the squad earlier in the season and we nearly sold him...

                      L. Leiva (100)

                      P. Coutinho (65)
                      M. Schneiderlin (65)

Most tackles won in the Premier League this weekend:

                      Lucas Leiva (8)
                      Kevin Mbabu (8)

Should have been made VC imo. No doubt in my mind. (even a case to be made for him being made Captain before Hendo, as Hendo's time would have come eventually anyway. Playing time for Lucas of late would though; have made that decision impossible. )

Yeah he deserves a higher profile within the club so I'd have made him VC also.

I guess the fact that we were planning on binning him made that fairly unlikely!

Big difference between "binning" someone and allowing them to leave as they were unlikely to get game time. Explaining that he was seen as cover and not standing in his way if he wanted to move was respectful on the clubs part.

It's only injuries to Henderson that have given Lucas his chance, but I still think when Henderson returns, Lucas may get phased out.

The club, well Rodgers made a rod for his back selecting Hendo for Captain and then Milner for Vice as they occupy the same part of the pitch for the most part and do essentially the same job but now both are basically undroppable which makes life needlessly tricky for Lucas and Can in particular.

that's a very good point actually.
