    Perhaps they do.

But you know from experience that building and managing teams in your line of work requires whole bunch of skillsets.

Often, in the real world (and football world), people end up being promoted because they are good at their existing job. The assumption being that their ability in a certain area automatically translates to supervisory or strategic expertise.

But too often, those assumptions are proved wrong. So we have endless, endlessly incompetent people running everything from football clubs, to our daily lives. Bad managers are far more common place than good ones in all walks of life.
    Oh I don't know.

True that, but what areas can be taught and which are unreachable?

Can you teach someone to be tactically aware in order to pass those ideas across?

Can you teach someone to manage?

Management school would seem to think so!

In the world of football, you need your coaching badges. No idea what's involved in attaining those but every single manager has them. And that implies to me that some people, despite having had training still don't have the aptitude to succeed in certain roles.

Point is though, none of us have any idea which footballers could make good managers just front watching them play football.
          Oh I don't know.

True but you'll get your 50% scrape through by the skin of their teeth types & then there's your pass with distinction types.

I broadly agree with you but people make assumptions from observable criteria like maturity, leadership and football intelligence. Gerrard and Lucas could be **** coaches and Moreno might be brilliant but you wouldn't say that based on what you've seen on the pitch.

Like anything written on this forum about football, it's just opinion and conjecture.

Well yes, it's a total waste of time and brain space.

I always hoped there would be an interviewer brave enough to ask him about getting his ears pinned back. It would have been must watch TV.

What do you think he'd have been if he hadn't made it as a footballer?
