Often, in the real world (and football world), people end up being promoted because they are good at their existing job. The assumption being that their ability in a certain area automatically translates to supervisory or strategic expertise.
But too often, those assumptions are proved wrong. So we have endless, endlessly incompetent people running everything from football clubs, to our daily lives. Bad managers are far more common place than good ones in all walks of life.
