Both Meireles and Aquilani will not get enough games next season to justify keeping them, and both of them can't play CM in a 4-4-2 in this league. People rate Meireles and that's fine, but where is he going to play? Henderson, Adam, Gerrard, Lucas and Shelvey/Spearing is a deep enough central midfield. If Kenny saw Meireles as part of his plans, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have signed Henderson.

It seem inevitable that one of Aquilani or Meireles will leave, it seems there are no takers for Aquilani at a reasonable fee, it seems we're more likely that we'll get a decent fee for Meireles. He had a good year last year but he isn't a Premiership centre midfielder and the positions he played last year won't be avilable to him this year. It makes sense to sell him now while his stock is high, if he sits on the bench for most of the season next summer we'll be lucky to get half the fee we're looking at now.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree that Meireles and Aquilani are effectively duplication in the squad.Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostBoth Meireles and Aquilani will not get enough games next season to justify keeping them, and both of them can't play CM in a 4-4-2 in this league. I'm not sure how relevant that the inability to play in a central 2 in 4-4-2 is massively relevant (and I'd argue also applies to Gerrard). I suspect we will be heading more 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.
Either way I'd still disagree that Henderson, Adam, Gerrard, Lucas and Shelvey/Spearing is enough - for a start Henderson may well be playing right hand side and Gerrard could well play AM with two behind. I think we need another creative midfielder capable of playing centrally. I'd keep one of Meireles and Aquilani. Whether through Kenny's choice or lack of willing buyers for Aquilani it looks like he has been the one to stay."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I cant see Henderson starting on the right. Its not his natural position and if he wants to start his career off well I think he needs to be centre mid. I could also see us starting with a similar diamond formation to Chelsea a la 2.3 seasons ago._____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

Both of them can't play as part of the "2" in a 4-2-3-1. It doesn't matter, it's the same thing. The only way they can be properly accommodated is by either playing behind a lone striker which is never doing to happen, or as part of a midfield 3, which isn't going to happen much either.Originally posted by dww View PostI agree that Meireles and Aquilani are effectively duplication in the squad.

It's more than enough because we're going to line up with two central midfielders more often than people think. Suarez and Carroll are going to be our first choice strikers, it's obvious that we're looking for a starting caliber left winger and it's also obvious that Kuyt will get plenty of games on the right.Either way I'd still disagree that Henderson, Adam, Gerrard, Lucas and Shelvey/Spearing is enough - for a start Henderson may well be playing right hand side and Gerrard could well play AM with two behind. Only three of Gerrard/Adam/Henderson/Lucas can be played at any given game, and we're going to see just two of them play at other games, so how is that not enough depth when they're backed up by two youngsters as well?
Meireles and Aquilani are both gone.

He's a box to box mid that can play on the right but I also don't think we'll want to play him there in the long run.Originally posted by red g View Postno it isnt
