Liverpool's Raul Meireles insists he will be playing for the club this season despite question marks over his future.

Manager Kenny Dalglish has brought in two midfielders in the shape of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, leading some to believe that Meireles could be offloaded.

Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly keen on ex-Porto man Meireles, however, he has no thoughts about quitting Anfield for pastures new this summer.

On the club's pre-season tour of China, when asked if he would still be a Liverpool player this coming season, he replied: "Of course."

Meireles has also been troubled by an ankle problem, but he says he is on the mend, adding: "I have a little problem with my ankle, but I've start training today. It's a little problem."

Meanwhile, the club's record signing Andy Carroll is looking to hit the ground running this term after arriving with an injury following his £35million capture from Newcastle.
"It was disappointing since I signed being injured. Getting myself back fit," said the England international.

"Now I'm getting myself fit I'm looking forward to the start of season, which should be successful."

We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

Even if Kenny doesnt rate him highly enough to be a regular first teamer, what a 'backup' option to have.

Shelvey may go on a loan, will probably sell either Aquilani or Raul and Poulsen is almost gone.

Also If Stevie struggles with injuries again we will have 5 mids available so that would leave 2 on the bench to cover in case of other injuries or poor form.

Suppose it would be easier to clump them in to their roles as apposed to listing all the midfielders.

                          Destroyers

                          Lucas
                          Spearing
                          Poulsen

                          Attacking Midfielders

                          Aqualani
                          Meireles
                          Shelvey

                          Box-to-Box

                          Gerrard
                          Adam (pigeon-holed)
                          Henderson (pigeon-holed)

I realise these can be argued, as can their roles and who goes where, but it's just an example that we have three players for a midfield slot (roughly speaking). Injuries and or suspensions and we have the squad to deal with it, plus players who can play in other positions to give us further options (e.g. Henderson on the right, Gerrard attacking etc).

I agree that it isn't very instructive to lump them all together as 'midfielder' or even 'central midfielders'. Not sure I'd agree with your groupings, although before we have seen a few friendlies and have some idea of how Kenny wants the team to line up it is difficult taks to make the division IMO.

Nice way of breaking things down and looking into our options this way Muddled.

I do think we will sell at least 2 and one will go on a loan but that still leave us with 6 midfield players that we can alternate and utilize in different roles and formation if we have injuries, suspensions and lack of good form.

                                Three.

Sell Poulsen send Shelvey on loan and then see if we can get some cash for Aqualani.
