Lol. Added to the rest of his game if he scores 20+ 5 seasons in a row he'll be above the level of Suarez who was earning 300k+.

Take into account football inflation and you're giving him a piss weak wage.

I thought he was supposedly asking for around £100k a week, may be I got my figures wrong but who cares you get the principle. Lets just stick with £100k as an example. You offer a lower guaranteed basic wage with the potential to rise significantly above the £100k towards the end of the contract represents a good deal for both player and club. It gives the player incentives to maintain/improve a level and he is rewarded for doing so, the club don't have to pay the extra if he can't be arsed once he signs a new deal. Assuming all goes well he earns more than he would have on a 'flat' salary. Obviously the contract would have different incentives for different things such as goals assists etc and the player would get the usual bonuses etc.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Why Liverpool should break the bank to sign Sterling up for 5 more years

Seems we are flying again, and to avoid another season of us losing and trying to replace a key component of the team, we need to do all we can to keep our young stars.

Here is an article on why Liverpool should break the bank to keep Sterling, written a week or so back. See if you agree.

                  It's not just an extra £30k a week though, it's a ransom

Thought he was close to signing a 70k pw deal ?

Who gives a ****. If he doesnt want to play for us. Sell. The. Cunt.

Its nothing more than a simple business decision!!!

                        Yep.

Itd be nice to keep him, but the club cant be held to ransom by one player. I dont really think he is holding us up. More trying to get the best deal for himself before signing. But still. If he wants to play hardball, so can we.
                        *Except Michael, who died.

FWIW I think he's good value at £70k a week and would pay up to £90k. I thought the press had suggested he wanted £130k a week though and that's too much. In an ideal world he'll sign for £70k, extend in a couple of years for £100k and we protect him with a long term contract throughout. Knowing us though, he'll get very close to the end of his deal and we'll either lose him or panic and offer £250k and £5million to all he agents

yeah 70k would be fair right now imo.

Agents don't generally do fair though do they!

Yup. £1.5m extra a year and that's before the next upcoming player knocks on Rodgers' door asking for parity. And then Henderson asking for the samd because he could be club captain. It sets a precedent that can't be dismissed as 'just £30,000 a week'.

why would 70k per week be fair??? When you watch a game - especially live - then you realise how good the guy is.

Sterling is looking at the likes of Balotelli, Lallana and Lovren and must be thinking "i am adding much more value to the team than any of them"...... .Jose Enrique and Ricky Lambert can barely scrape onto the bench and are probably earning 50-60k per week.....and they are not adding anything to LFCs season. Then he goes on england duty and sees Ross Barkley up close in training and sees that he is on £65k per week at Everton. Sterling is on another planet to Barkley and Liverpool are also in a different league to Everton. He looks at Oxlade Chamberlain and Walcott and Wilshere and knows he is a good deal better than these players and must think why isn't he being offered parity with them...

Sturridge signed a new contract worth apparently £150k per week - so Sterling should be looking for something similar to that.....and if his agent goes in and points out what Sterling adds to the team compared with Sturridge, then it is hard to see the clubs argument.

LFC should offer him a long term contract with heavy performance-based incentives for raised wages depending on how he does over the next couple of years - and this should be spelled out as a way of keeping the player motivated. However, it should be something like £100k per week with the possibility to earn an extra 50k and with automatic raises when he reaches certain milestones.

It is already frustrating that we can't compete with the likes of Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and United in the transfer market - sometimes even Spurs as well. But if we can't even keep our talent at the club, then Brendan will be fighting a losing battle to qualify for the CL year in year out. And as for a title win, then that is pipe dream stuff. If this was any of our rivals, then it would have been sorted without ever even being an issue.....
