I know Bender, i feel your pain, the money in football is obscene, especially for the more gifted of players.

Saying that, if we don't pay the best players what they believe they could get elsewhere; then they'll go, as will every decent young player we find.

It's a bit ****, but it could be the difference between building a top team with young players we pick up and not being able to.

With Sterling, i look at it and think....how much did we pay for him ? Compared with what he could be worth, and offset his wages that way, ofcourse that doesn't overcome the moral implications of giving in to his cuntin agent! But it will hopefully make us a better team going forward.

I think thats the clincher - I read somewhere that his agent is having a few issues divorcing himself from his current agency.

He is Berhaino's agent as well.

Seems to be a theme here.

No doubt that Sterling's agents will be citing the contract given to Luke Shaw at United as an example of the contract their client needs.

I'm in two minds about this; clearly football's bubble is continuing to exponentially inflate and with the new TV deals about to be announced that locking our most outstanding kid into a 5/6 year deal makes good sense. Just a £100k+ per week deal for a kid of 20 just seems so wrong.

IMO, ultimately he's in the box seat so I think we need to negotiate hard but given him close to want he wants.

He's not good enough to get in the City, Chelsea, and RM sides, and those are the only kind of clubs that could afford him. The lad needs to wake the **** up and sign a new contract.

Personally, if he refused to sign a 90k a week contract I'd sell him this summer for 45m and let him rot on the bench somewhere.

I'm not concerned, I'm confident we'll get this sorted over the next couple of months. Just an annoying media storm.

yup. I agree....I think it would be a terrible move for him to leave us...he's not quite there yet, here we'd give him time and patience and support him....

City Chelsea Madrid. They bring him in, chew him up and spit him out a few years later half the player.

So his age stops him being worth more than 90k a week but it doesn't stop him being worth 45m, guess it depends if it works in our favour then

Its amazing hey. Been one of our best players for the past 2 seasons. He's after a new contract and suddenly he's far from the finished article, has a lot of development to do, not as important as x y and z etc etc.

But he's still worth 50% more than Shaw if we sell!

No other club out of the kindness of their hearts (and money laundering business) is going to increase our offer of 90k for him to continue to play for us. But loads of clubs will come into battle for his fee if he becomes available.

So the 90k will stay at 90k unless we cave in. But the 45m is fluid because of external factors (i.e. aforementioned laundering clubs).

                            One tit for another.

Not his age, his current level of ability.
