He wasn't that good tonight, second half he played better but wasn't as fantastic as everyone as making out. His passing and first touch was poor.

He has a lot to learn and he will because he's bright, it's clear he's a baller and an intellectual one at that - we can all see that but tonight his touch and decision making at times was poor but I'm not having a pop at him, call it constructive criticism.

He's a one off in that group of three.

I don't know what I'm saying half the time. I've had some beers lads cut me some slack.

His passing accuracy was the highest in the team yesterday, which is very unusual for a forward, never mind one who was 'poor'.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

You lost all right for you and your views to be treated respectfully when you used the term 'baller'

How long is left on his current deal?

I am worried we are going to lose him in the summer.

Would explain any apparent interest in Shaqiri if true?

Raheem Sterling set to sign new Liverpool contract, tying him to the club until 2020
In welcome news for the Reds after the Steven Gerrard bombshell, Sterling is expected to sign a five-year contract by the end of the month

                10:30PM GMT 03 Jan 2015

Liverpool expect Raheem Sterling to sign a new five-year contract by the end of the month in what will be a significant boost following Steven Gerrard’s decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

Gerrard, 34, confirmed on Saturday that he would join a club in the United States, a move he sought after being told by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers that he was no longer an automatic selection for the team.

Gerrard paid glowing tribute to Rodgers, saying he would have won many more trophies had the current manager taken over when the midfielder was in his prime.

He said: “I wish I was 24, I wish I’d met Brendan when I was 24 because I think I’d be sitting here talking about a lot of titles that we’d won together. The reality is, Brendan came into this club when I was 32 years of age and it’s a shame that relationship didn’t start 10 years ago.”

Gerrard said that it was a shock when Rodgers recently told him “it was time to manage my games for me and for the team”. The midfielder added: “It was a very difficult conversation.”

As Liverpool fans came to terms with the exit of an icon, it emerged that the club’s negotiations with Sterling’s representatives had progressed well.

Sterling, 20, is understood to have rebuffed an initial offer but Liverpool do not now anticipate any hitches. The forward was initially offered a pay rise taking him to £70,000 a week but his representatives were understood to be holding out for £120,000 a week. It is thought that the two parties have met somewhere in the middle and Sterling’s new deal will be heavily incentivised, as was the contract signed recently by Daniel Sturridge.

It will confirm Sterling’s growing importance at Liverpool, especially after Gerrard’s decision.

Rodgers insisted that he had been desperate for Gerrard to stay and that the club had done everything to persuade the 34‑year-old, who had been in “turmoil”, to sign a new contract.

The manager said: “He’s been a brilliant captain during my time here so naturally I wanted him to stay. But I think his role is slightly different because he still sees himself wanting to go on and play for a couple more years.

“Naturally at this level that was going to be tapered a little bit over the next couple of years. He wasn’t ready to move into coaching or anything like that yet.”

Rodgers said that Gerrard had not been offered a coaching role to remain at Liverpool – but that he envisaged the midfielder returning one day. “Steven has an ambassadorial role in his contract here but there wasn’t a coaching offer made. He hasn’t got his badges, and he isn’t the type who will just go into coaching blind.”

Asked whether Gerrard could become a manager, Rodgers said: “I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t be. He’s been a wonderful leader. You see players coming in as coaches on the backs of managers, with the idea of learning the ropes and maybe one day moving into the job. I think there would be a great opportunity for Steven to do that one day.”

Rodgers rejected any suggestion that Liverpool had not done enough to persuade Gerrard to stay. “I can only talk from the conversations I’ve had with Steven and he’s never felt unhappy. I have not been party to whatever has gone on with the club and his agents, but we wanted to keep him at the club.

“I still wanted Steven to very much be a part of what I was doing. But it went on and on and nothing was agreed and it gave Steven more thinking time.”

Liverpool FC close in on new Raheem Sterling deal

                  Jan 03, 2015 22:30 By Ian Doyle

The Reds are confident an agreement will be reached by the end of the month

Liverpool are close to agreeing a new improved contract with Raheem Sterling.

The 20-year-old still has more than two years remaining on the present deal he signed in December 2012.

The Reds, though, are keen to reward Sterling for his subsequent progress, not least with potential suitors – including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – tracking the highly-rated winger.

Talks between Liverpool and the player’s representatives have been ongoing for some time.

And the club are now confident an agreement will be reached by the end of the month.

Sterling has emerged as a key player under Brendan Rodgers, scoring three goals in his last five games after being switched to a centre forward role.

Regarding the ongoing speculation surrounding Sterling, Rodgers said last month: “I don’t think there’s any way there’s anything affecting him.

“He’s the type of boy, he’s leaves his representatives to work with the club in order to hopefully organise the deal.

“I’ll never be surprised teams are linked with Raheem because he’s such a big talent. I’m quite relaxed about it.”

Not even sure what that means tbh. Saw it flash up with Stevie on one of my infrequent half-watches of soccer am but still none the wiser. Whatever, I agree it's annoying.

MESSI IS STATISTICALLY THE WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE PLAYER, BUT THERE'S A BIG SURPRISE FOR LIVERPOOL FANS

Real Madrid now know how much they have to pay Liverpool...
The transfer market can be a very scary environment for some managers because there's no exact science when it comes to getting value for money.

For every Dennis Irwin there will always be an El-Hadji Diouf. Holy moly, that could be the first and only time that those two players are ever used in the same sentence.

The rather brilliantly-named CIES Football Observatory has devised a unique algorithm to create this list which was based on 1,500 transfers that were made in the last five years along with the following:

                          1) Performance data (matches, goals, dribbles, assists), 2) physical characteristics (age, position, contract length), 3) competition level and results achieved by their teams (both club and national)

No surprises that the godlike Lionel Messi tops the list with a valuation of €220million (£173m), while his best friend Cristiano Ronaldo is worth €133m (£104m).

The main surprise is that Raheem Sterling is the seventh-most valuable player in world right now according to this data. Cue Florentino Perez writing a cheque as we speak, made out to this exact amount.

The 20-year-old would command a fee of €63m (£50m) which is more than Wayne Rooney, Alexis Sanchez, Gareth Bale and Neymar.

What's interesting is that Bale is only worth £47m according to this data, which is almost half of what Real Madrid actually paid Spurs for the Welshman.

We put that down to Daniel Levy's intense negotiation tactics where he financially beats the living crap out of the other club's delegate.

The info also states that Man Utd paid £15 over the odds for Angel Di Maria, while Eden Hazard is the third most valuable player in world football at €99m (£77.6m), Diego Costa is fourth and Cesc Fabregas is also in the top 10.

Theoretically, at what point would you accept a bid from an overseas club for Sterling?

                            £50m?
                            £60m?
                            £100m?

No doubts Sterling will leave at some point in the near future, we are a bit of a selling club. Lack of champions league football is never a good thing. He's too talented and has way too much potential to be playing outside of the champs league.

Anything over 50m would have to be considered. As good as he is, he's still mainly potential at the moment.
