Or maybe I do. Shaggy can elaborate if he wants. The situation isn't in hand.Originally posted by RichC View PostNo what's stupid is having no idea what is going on but feeling well placed to have a valid opinion on it.
He might/probably will sign, but the club have not let his contract run down intentionally. You can stick you head in the sand and be as condescending as you want (which is normally a lot) but its a fact that once a good player gets to the last 12 months of their contract then they hold all the cards in the negotiations. Poor from the club letting it get to this stage.

Sell him and get maximum value for him. We're getting to the point now where that isnt an option and we either give him what he wants or he walks away for nothing or at least relatively little.Originally posted by G View PostWhat could the club do to avoid it getting to this stage other than offer him exactly what he wants, which they clearly aren't willing to do?

Coming from you
These are multi million pound deals on offer not small contractual considerations and the last I checked his contract runs until the Summer of 2017 - http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rahee...ler/134425#ath
It's not good to let them run down but when there is still two years to go on the deal it seems a little pessimistic (typical of you) to get overly worried if he signs great if he doesn't then there is still time to do something about it you also have to think about breaking wage structures of which I've no idea if we're doing so or not; do you ?
So yeah I think it's silly to get overly worked up about it

So why do you think he probably will sign if the club aren't likely to do either of those things?Originally posted by captainfog View PostSell him and get maximum value for him. And equally, why would the club do either of those things if he's probably going to agree to negotiations? If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

It's the Sterling thread.Originally posted by captainfog View PostI'm clearly talking about Henderson.
Post your insider stuff in the Hendo thread.
Even with the Henderson contractual situation whilst I agree on the face of it we've let it run down to close have we been making offers is he asking for too much money or image rights or certain guarantees or are we just not negotiating with him ?
It's easy to take pot shots at the club with limited information

Its the risk attached to letting a player run their contract down to the last 12 months that I'm aversed to. I think Henderson will sign a new deal because I think the club will fold and pay him what he wants, but come the summer his agent will be chatting to other clubs with renewed vigour and if a big wage offer comes in then there is a real risk we'll lose him for free or a fraction of what he's worth. Why put ourselves in that position? It seems totally unnecessary.Originally posted by RedReet View PostSo why do you think he probably will sign if the club aren't likely to do either of those things?

It's not ideal, but I dare say it's something that both the club and player wanted to avoid, so as with most negotiations, a compromise will be made, rather than one side getting everything they want.Originally posted by captainfog View PostIts the risk attached to letting a player run their contract down to the last 12 months that I'm aversed to.
